AWD is engaged when in 'Normal, Sport or Snow'
RWD in 'ECO' unless you really put your foot down and the front motor engages.

I haven't used Eco mode much, but I recall reading that it will normally use AWD momentarily when leaving from a complete stop to help minimize any wheelspin if the road is slippery.

Once you are rolling it will not engage the front motor to get more power or help with basic traction. It may use the front motor for regenerative braking in certain modes.

I suspect it will use the front as a drive motor if necessary to maintain stability of the vehicle. For example, if you get into a skid, it can use the front motor to help pull the front out. I don't really recommend testing this, though.

Well of anyone can make sense of what the manual says -

ECO mode
ECO mode is a driving mode in which the vehicle can change the engagement status of the motor according to the situation required. Auto changing the driving mode (2WD/AWD) helps improve energy efficiency.

Electric energy efficiency varies according to the driver's driving habit and road condition.

  • When ECO mode is selected, the ECO indicator will appear on the instrument cluster and the color of the mood lamp will change.
  • When ECO mode is activated:
    • The acceleration response may be slightly reduced if the accelerator pedal is depressed moderately.
    • The air conditioner performance may be limited.
The situations above are normal conditions when ECO mode is activated to help improve electric energy efficiency.
Particulary this bit - Auto changing the driving mode (2WD/AWD) helps improve energy efficiency

ECO is AWD at low speed, on steep hills, and when traction is compromised. Dash display will tell you that.

Not sure your foot can access AWD alone, without first losing traction to some degree.
I think it only engages in ECO when I-Pedal is on.
I-pedal is full-time AWD.

I get that Eco mode switches 4WD to 2WD but I don’t understand the “except 15km/h or more, it’s connected” (at least that’s how it is translated into English). I assume it means 15km/h or less?

When you pull away, the car is in AWD drive and then drops to RWD.

I noticed this on my one when playing with ECO mode.

AWD will work in Eco mode, if the car determines wheel spin or you put your foot to the floor but I expect the amount of driver to the front wheels will be very low 10 to 20 percent.
