Build Quality - Rattles

7287 Views 34 Replies 20 Participants Last post by  Fredrik_Swed
I had a test drive of an EV6 last week and was generally impressed (more so after taking it back to the dealer to have them lower the tyre pressures from ~44 PSI all round... (stop doing this dealers! 🙄)). However, both my wife and I noticed that the floating arm rest did seem to flex/rattle quite a bit over rough/broken surfaces. To be expected somewhat due to the floating design I suppose but it was worse than I had hoped. Anyone else experienced this?

I guess I could always make sure I have a couple of full bottles in the holders to act as mass dampers but I would rather not have to always do this 😄

I thought mine did and then I realised it was the Key in the central arm rest

I had that too but then moved the key. It stopped most of the rattle, but you could still hear something occasionally and you could visibly see it shake/shudder over harsh surfaces.

As a passenger with my arm resting on the armrest I did feel quite a hard vibration coming through the armrest which felt nasty - wasn't happy with that one bit.
Nothing i notices, was comfortable , drove GT-line.

Saw this post yesterday and made a mental note to check when I drove the car next. On a bumpy country road I definitely didn't notice any rattles from the centre console or arm rest.

Ok, perhaps the demonstrator car isn't quite as well put together as the newer builds, or it takes really quite a rough surface to notice it. Either way, it's not a deal breaker, just wondered if anyone else had experienced it.

Sometimes demonstrators are used as the Dealer's personal car; maybe they just left something inside the centre cubby like a pair of sunglasses.
Also i like to add that when i drove the demo car a few days back it was all new. Yesterday i visited the dealer and he told me people already destroyed some things in the car, like the seat was already not straight (a really heavy dude testes the car) and also some issues with the wheel.
Some people are very irresponsible when test driving the car so it can also be that.
On the other hand, the driver’s seat couldn’t handle a heavy person? That doesn’t inspire confidence in durability.

It's nothing to do with weight. Even the cheapest car seats can support a morbidly obese person. The problem will be people fucking around in the demonstrator without any care. I've seen Audi demonstrators with the interior beaten to hell and back and people don't seem to have an issue with Audi's overall build quality.

Rental cars are even worse sometimes. My god, some of the rentals I've had in the past!
Mine has the rattle from the center console. Should be easy to fix, it's the plastic part sitting towards the passenger side. It's actually not attached very well, my dealer will have a look at it this week.

I could probably just put some silicon or something there and it will disappear but considering the price for a new car and the segment they are aiming at it shouldn’t be there from the beginning.

I test drove a GT LIne S and not rattle, however, on past experience with other cars (Audi!!!) rattles were an issue and solved using padding in the doors (wires hitting off metal or plastic) and silicon grease on harder plastics where they met other surfaces, usually rattle come out in winter when materials are cold I was told?. Maybe some truth to this. Anyway. I also solved some myself in my soon to be sold Audi A4 2019 Avant with WD40 silicon spray, great stuff but grease will last long and not dry up as quick. Please test it on a surface before spraying into your new EV6 though :). This stuff seems to work as well
After 4.500 km we’ve had no rattles at all. Very satisfied so far. And believe me I hear everything.

The little cupholder arms rattle in mine. Sounds like the springs. Only on big big bumps.

So, did they fix your issue? I got my EV6 a couple of days ago and also have some rattles from the middle console.
I also have a rattle from the trim around the arm rest in the middle, seems to be where two plastic pieces meet closer towards the rear of the arm rest where the hinge is. I haven't taken it in to get looked at yet (only had the car for about 2 weeks) but it's definitely driving me crazy. I can hear it when putting my arm on the arm rest or even just when going over some bumps.

After 16k miles I was being driven mad with rattles from the back...

In the end had to remove all the tailgate trim, Hot Glue and Pad all the brackets in the sides as they were all loose and rattling, Duct tape a few loose wires, and the best of all 2 ratty old cushions in the tailgate cavity really lowered the booming from the back

Quiet as a mouse back there now

Dealer said if I left it with them 2 or 3 days they would look at it, but figured it would come back worse than it went in

For those with a rattling middle console its a very easy remove there are a couple of clips that can rattle under the lower central bin you can get to those with just a spludger, or you can remove and reset the centre console in 10mins
