Charge for diagnostics if they don't find anything!?!

This is common across many manufacturers. Dealership cant fix anything if they dont find anything to fix. There are codes that will throw a check engine light (CEL), and those that dont but still log a code, and then messages that dont log a code. If a code is logged the dealer can look into it further, but if your warning doesnt log a code then it gets hard. One would think that Kia would have programmed the car to at least log a code when the "check electrical system" message gets displayed, but I personally havent dug into that so I cant say.

Service at an Audi, Lexus, Infiniti, Genesis, Mercedes, BWM, etc. dealership varies greatly from the mainstream ones (Ford, GM, Dodge, Ram, Jeep, Subaru, Toyota, Nissan, Kia, Hyundai, etc.). They are luxury vehicles sold at a higher price point to customers who they believe are more likely to come back to the dealership for service and are also more likely to purchase new vehicles more frequently so they have a different business model, and often time more margin in the new vehicle sales and service so they can afford to absorb costs like these better. Not saying it is right, but you can go to an Infiniti dealer and then a Nissan dealer both owned by the same parent company and have vastly different experiences, and even service labor rates. Heck, the Ford and Ram dealers and service shops I use for work are owned by the same company and even share a parking lot, but the Ram service is 100x worse and their labor rate is 50% higher than the Ford store.
