I can’t believe this happened but I took my matte gray ev6 to the dealer for a replacement windshield. There were some minor defects on the hood that I was aware of and so were they. We had discussed the defects earlier and were told that their head detailer would take a look at it while the windshield was getting replaced. Well, instead what they decided to do was run an orbital polisher across the ENTIRE HOOD. It is absolutely trashed. The entire hood is completely fucked. I looked at the work order and can’t believe my eyes. 1) replaced windshield. 2) buffed hood.

I am absolutely sick to my stomach right now. The car looks terrible. I am beyond pissed that the dealer would run a polisher across the whole hood. This wasn’t just one tech’s mistake. It got past 2 people and I specifically told them not to polish the hood. I just needed the detailer to take a look. But they did this instead. Car is completely ruined. There’s only 200 miles on the odometer and I haven’t even got my plates yet!

I don’t know if this will ever look the same. Matte paint is tricky. I asked about a replacement hood and they told me that’s not possible because they receive replacement body panels only primed. Told me to bring it back start of the week and they’d take it to a body shop to be repainted. I’m afraid this will never look the same.

I’m considering legal action at this point but does anyone have any kind of advice or suggestions?

Wow that's a massive mistake by the dealer, I would say get it repainted, if that does not work replace the hood and if that does not work I would get my money back.

Get this agreement in writing so your covered legally, no one will touch the car with that damage if they tried to re-sell the car.

Sounds like your dealers are amateur's and why you should never let a dealer touch your paintwork.

Fingers crossed for you.

Dang, sorry to see that happen to your vehicle; I'd be ticked off too if I knew I expressively told the dealer not to clean or otherwise polish my matte vehicle, only to see them do the exact opposite.

Be forewarned though--it may be hard finding a body/paint shop that is both experienced with working on EVs and matte paint; I'm currently dealing with a paint warranty issue on my SMG EV6--only one body shop in my local area has the experience and is capable and willing to do the job but Kia corporate has balked at the high estimate (over $7K) to repaint the hood and both driver's side doors; they asked me to obtain another estimate, if you can believe that--not sure why I would be needing to do the legwork on that but that's a discussion for another time; I did find another body shop willing to provide an estimate but now they are hedging and saying that they don't feel comfortable doing the work so I'm back at square one.

A decent body shop can achieve any finish, to be fair how do you think most cars are repaired even matte or pearlescent ones.

There is no such thing as OEM paint it’s all achieved with codes in a mixing system and in the case of tricky finishes a good eye.

The estimate is a rip off though

As a fellow matte-finish owner I feel your pain and sure do hope that your dealer makes this right. I have been fortunate in my dealership experience thus far. When I left my EV6 FE for recall service, the service advisor saw the car and immediately placed a large sign on the dashboard that said "MATTE FINISH. DO NOT WASH OR DETAIL"
