DON'T BUY YOUR KIA IN MASSACHUSETTS!

I bought my Kia EV6 in Lynn, MA and I've been enjoying my EV6 for a little more than a month, but I'm enjoying it without the benefit of Kia E-Services and the Kia Connect app. So I don't have any ability to remote start, remote climate control, manage the charging remotely, use navigation assistance or any of the safety features that Kia Connect supply. Had I known that this wasn't available to me prior to purchasing the car, I wouldn't have bought it, but I was given the impression at the dealership that Kia Connect was a part of the package I was purchasing, and at no point was I told that it wasn't available in Massachusetts. Granted, perhaps had I found this forum prior to purchasing the car, I'd have discovered this problem, but realistically, wasn't it the responsibility of the dealership to let me know? Not only did they not tell me, but they led me on for about a month "researching" a solution, which was essential a "sorry." And I barely got that in an e-mail after repeatedly calling the place and sending multiple e-mails and text messages.

At this point, I'm interested in finding out what work-arounds people have used for things like assistance with navigation (finding chargers, etc.), safety and anti-theft options (do I need to get Lo-Jack or some other option?), remote start/climate management (if anything exists).

I also want to warn buyers that the dealerships may or may not be up front about this--I have filed a complaint with the Massachusetts Attorney General about the dealership, since I was basically sold the car under fraudulent terms. I haven't heard anything back yet, so I'm also using social media to try and get the message out. Feel free to share a warning with any of your friends in Massachusetts!

Sadly, this is a well known problem. I don't think there's a workaround. The only "good" part is that the onboard navigation isn't very good, so most people prefer to use carplay or android auto and use their navigator of choice.

The rest of it just sucks. The state of Massachusetts and Hyundai Motor Group are having a pissing contest, and consumers are caught in the middle.

Colorado passes 1st-in-the-nation legislation for tractor right-of-repair so farmers and ranchers can fix their own equipment or use a indie shop. Tractor and implement John Deere was the impetus but it applies to all manufacturers of large ag equipment.

Maybe it'll eventually percolate to the auto industry...

eta: this is related to what's go on in MA.

It can't be their first EV6 sold, so there's no reason they did not know about it.

I may have bought the first 2023 EV6, but no, they've been selling the 2022 version and it doesn't work for them either. I bought the car but had a sunroof installed, so I didn't pick it up for a week. I received the Kia Connect link, which was "expired," so I texted the salesman, who told me he'd have a new link sent. When I didn't get the link the next day, I texted him (a day later) and he "wanted to talk to me." That's when he told me about Kia Connect not working--so he was either poorly informed having just started the job, or they pulled a fast on on me. It felt more like he didn't know! Which is even worse in many ways. The sales manager was less than worthless.

I use my iPhone and Waze for navigation most of the time, but I didn't know if there are any helpful apps when I start driving beyond local trips to help me find chargers along the way.

Yes, Plugshare and ABRP are the two you want. Also, get the apps for ALL the charging networks you might use. Their apps will have (hopefully) the most up to date information on the state of their networks.

Besides the Kia app's functions not working, the big problem is that you can't use battery preconditioning to speed up DC charging in the winter. That only works when you're using the built in navigation to navigate to a charger, and if you can't use the navigation you can't activate the preconditioning.

There's one silver lining: after a year, you won't be tempted to spend up to $200 annually to maintain the subscription that enables those features.

True but not having the remote start option really sucks on those cold winter nights and hot summer days.

We have become soft. I too cannot live without auto start, heated/cooled seats and especially a heated steering wheel. With the new telluride I have, I don’t think I can own a car without a seat massage function.

I thought that this was an issue for any app for a connected car in Mass, not just the EV6 or just Hyundai/Kia, so there is no way that someone at the dealership shouldnt have known that the Kia Connect app does not work in that state.
Chiming in to say Quick Kia in Braintree, MA is the biggest joke of a dealership and is the reason why the EV6 will be the last Kia I own. I will take any opportunity online and in person to send people away from that dealership. If anyone knows a tried and true method to get around this software block please let me know - I hate that a $65k car can't be operated remotely - such a joke, Kia won't respond to my emails regarding it either.

Paywall to read. Useless.
Damn. Apparently no one here knows how to use Google
I don't get it. What does the Kia app have to do with right to repair? Weird...

EDIT: Did some googling... found the answer:

Kia and Subaru.
Kia and Subaru.
I still stand by my statement that the dealer should have known the app would not work in Mass
