That's nice that they are adding solar canopies and waiting areas, these sites seem to be in California, what about other states? I guess we have to wait until we have more EVs on the road to get these in other areas.

Would be even better if solar canopies brought more 350 Kw locations. Less crowding in waiting areas too.
I can't imagine those two things have much of anything to do with each other, other than 350kW locations really demand on-site battery storage to offset the peak draw, and on-site battery storage is somewhat necessary for a solar installation to matter much.

One parking space fits about 3.5kW worth of solar panels (which you only get at noon in the summer, keep in mind), so an awning over two spaces is basically one L2 charger at best. You'd need 142 parking spaces worth of solar at noon in summer to charge an EV6 at full speed.

The point of installing solar at these sites is not so much to enable more capacity, but that if you have a battery on site of almost any size at all, the economics work out that you should install as much solar as feasible since you'll almost never fill the battery with it, and you'll almost always have an immediate consumer in the form of a car to charge anyway. Very easy, economically viable green-ification.

If not canopies, whatever solar it takes to get 350 kw. Lots of space, sun, & sand along interstates in the southwest.
