Anyone knowing if the EV6 supports OTA update not only for Navigation but also for the complete car functionallty. Got information from Hyundai customer support that Ioniq 5 does not. Not sure what is the fact here.

I do not have confirmation of any details in the US or otherwise but my assumption would be the infotainment system would be the primary system that is updatable via OTA. That said, Kia's infotainment system does control most vehicle functions. The ECU, BCM, and other drivetrain modules are NOT run through the dash head unit so probably NOT OTA.

If confirmed that Hyundai Ioniq 5 doesn't neither will the EV6. Always been unclear what extend of OTA will be, also what are the alternative (I'm not against a user USB upgrade, as long as we don't rely on dealer. Not sure about Kia but the few Mercedes dealers I dealt with always "forget" to spend time upgrading anything. While entertainment and navigation are easy to check, ECU, BCM etc aren't.

I think you are unlikely to see full OTA updates on the EV6 or Ioniq 5. We may get OTA updates to the Infotainment system, but you won't see full OTA integration until Hyundai/Kia start installing the Nvidia "Connected Car" system - probably next year now!

Am I alone in being completely uninterested in self-driving cars?

I think the OP was asking about OTA updates - "NVIDIA DRIVE" offers much more than just the self driving stuff, but you do need to dig down a little in the links I posted.

For what it's worth - I can't be bothered with the self driving stuff either!

I assume 2022 means cars developed in 2022, not 2022 year models? Surely we would have seen something about the EV6/Ioniq 5 including this if they had it.

Thanks for all your inputs, especially the links to NVIDIA integration, has passed it on to my dealer to get some feedback from the importer but it would be likely that it refers to new developed vehicles with start 2022.

For me it would be a shop stopper if it does not support OTA. I do not wait for any selfdriving services either but there are so much other functions that can be updated, assistance functions, battery management, bug fixes and improvements of initial installments. I have been in the vehicle design and evolution for electronics and software for almost 35 years and are aware of risks but also the tremendous speed it is in this development now. What’s new and exiting right now is outdated in a near future.

Ford will shortly issue an OTA update that will increase the battery management and thus extending battery warranty, Volvo and VW has informed of an OTA that will decrease consumption thus extending the range.

So, shortly, yes I want OTA but I do not want the car to take full control but I want assistance (as also Euro-Ncap) and I want improvements in vehicle functionallity. I like driving, that’s why I concidered EV6 as it according to reviews is more fun to drive than competition.

Ioniq 5 has bugs causing assistance warning that were fixed with user head unit upgrade (so some of the upgrades are available via OTA/user upgrade) but it's unclear if the issue/fix was with display issue (like head unit pulling assistance status too soon or adding delay) or further up the chain.

Hi there,

Forgive me for returning to the subject of the infotainment system and the full OTA update.
In this image from the Kia website in Germany you can see the screens. This menu system doesn't look like the one in the Nvidia Drive system?

It seems to still be confusing, partly the same illustrations are on the Swedish website as well. If it is Nvidia behind or not, how knows. The Swedish importer states that there are now plans for Nvidia in the EV6 in the known future. On the other hand Nvidia states the following on their webside:

”The leading global auto group, which produces more than 7 million vehicles a year, announced today that every Hyundai, Kia and Genesis model will include infotainment systems powered by NVIDIA DRIVE, with production starting in 2022. By making high-performance, energy-efficient compute a standard feature, every vehicle will include a rich, software-defined AI user experience that’s always at the cutting edge”

Every car with production starting in 2022?? Probably
