I have a 2022 EV6 color Gravity Blue with 20k miles. I realized when washing and waxing it recently that it has way more scratches and paint chips than I expected. The hood is the main problem. Doing some searching on the Internet, I see this is a very common complaint for Kia. This is a major disappointment - much more so than all the charging/ICCU issues. I don't think I would consider a Kia or Hyundai again.(Not clear if the paint quality is better on Genesis or not)

If you have a Kia, my advice is to get some PPE on it (you can do this yourself and save a lot of money).

I concur and it’s exactly why PPF went on the front of my 2022 from the nose to the A pillars, including the pillars and mirrors, within 3 weeks of purchase. Well before my first long trip. Still looks great and no pits, fading, or rock chips after many trips from Las Vegas to CA and Utah and back. The high desert winds, blowing dust and sand, and blazing sun wreak havoc on paint. Especially as we have to park outside. Just ask anyone in Phoenix.

All new modern paint is thin, water based and sprayed by robots, this keeps the paint thin and costs down and the good old days of a hard clear coating have long gone, thats where any form of polishing should be done lightly as your polish through the clear coat.

You may very well be correct that there is a trend with thinner/softer paint nowadays. That said, a little bit of research shows that Kia appears to have a particularly bad reputation for paint problems. It is also unacceptable that a $60,000 car has paint finishes this poor. I have a 2021 Ford truck and my wife has a 2025 BMW sedan that cost a similar amount, and they do not have paint issues.

Worse than the worsest of worst! But seriously, I don't see how the Kia paint is worse than any other manufacturer... They are all terrible and roads are terrible.

Speaking of which, have you seen the new one piece windshield curved roof for the Lucid Gravity. One rock pebble hits that roof the wrong way and you're looking at a very expensive replacement... Probably at least $5k.

Lucid is doing really cool stuff engineering-wise, but it's not practical in this economy. How many people buy $100k+ cars, let alone $100k EV family haulers? Those with families usually tend to be more thrifty with their spending. And did you know that Lucid loses about $200k on each EV they sell? Crazy! It's Saudi money keeping this company alive. They need to get a Model 3 reasonably priced competitor out stat.

I bought a 2022, used in February. It wasn’t until I got home after the snow had melted off that I discovered the rock damage, chips, and scratches on the matte gray finish.

Back in the day, I used to really care about my car being perfect, but now I just act like it’s a fighter jet with normal cosmetic damage and it doesn’t bother me as much.

I got an estimate for a hood respray for about $800, but the car has scratches all over and people in Denver do not care if they ding, dent or scratch your car in parking lots.

I had to let it go.

Tell us how you really feel..;) You bring up a good point. Not only do they park next to me, but some park over the line. The times I have to park between two cars I always assess the situation like a detective. Can't park next to minivan since even if they have sliding doors the mom won't care and bang her door because she's too distracted yelling at the kids. Definitely no trucks. Definitely not on the left side downhill to a car since their door will swing open uncontrollably. There are hardly any small cars around nowadays. You used to be able to be next to them and their doors would be too short to reach you. I try to guess at cars with just one occupant which at least reduces my chances of getting hit by half. But finding expensive and detailed looking cars helps the odds, of course.

It's a tough life being a GT baller.
