Unfortunately, this is not the update I was hoping for. Mine took less than 30 min but does nothing for phone auto projection. Still have to manually plug my phone in in order to get Android Auto or Carplay. I spoke with a Kia rep a month ago and he told me the update that will allow auto projection would happen in Nov, so I guess, fingers crossed there will be one more update before the year is out.

 

This update is not for EV6, EV6 is not listed in the list of eligible vehicles. So don’t worry, let’s wait two more days

There will not be wireless CarPlay probably ever.

 

They are apparently working on it. I've seen it noted in larger publications.

Edit: Testing now, but the EV6 update version is the same as the previous - 05042022. Other vehicles have 10112022. I'm wondering if they are going to make us use OTA only...

Edit 2: For the EV6, it's the same update as before. Just installed. Sadly no new features.

 

This is really hilarious by looking at the eligible vehicle list and see only EV6 got the old map and software version.

 

So the summer OTA, which was the same as the April download, is also the same as this update delivered several months later? Is Kia just trolling EV6 owners now?

 

Does the update notes say it is specifically for GEN4 and later?

Why would they "re-release" the May update again?

 

I got my May OTA update but it didn’t “come” or “arrive magically” to my car until about a month ago. Seems really late. Is this typical for all EV6 cars? Does it roll out sequentially via some strange order? Or was it just late that time and future OTA updates might expected to be a little more promptly rolled out?

 

I wonder if the US EV6 and Ioniq 5 SW update is delayed because they are finalizing the hardware firmware updates that are needed for the pre-mid July EV6s to get the battery preconditioning update. A new SW & NAV version will be needed to communicate with the updated hardware.

 

Let's hope so. I was kind of thinking the same thing. They didn't "update" anything this time around bc there wasn't anything to release...yet.

 

I seriously doubt that preconditioning can be added with any update, OTA or USB, that owners can perform themselves on the current gen Manpsoft system. Just look at anyone in Europe with an early build that wants preconditioning, they need to go into a dealership to get the update done to enable it

I'd love to be proven wrong but everyone who buys an eGMP platform vehicle needs to get used to the idea that this software/hardware combo is never going to be like Tesla, Rivian, Lucid, or any other vehicle with completely new software that's fully integrated with the hardware.

There's just little incentive for Hyundai/Kia to retroactively change so much of the software and firmware in these cars that's used in everything from the Telluride to the Kona. They've already announced a brand new platform with full OTA capabilities coming in 2025.

 

Thats not whats being said. The update is a 2 part update as far as we know. One - owners will need to update the infotainment/map software themselves (or a dealer can do it or OTA). Two-hardware updates will then have to be applied at the dealer so that way preconditioning will then be fully enabled.

 

At update.kia.com in Europe the EV6 nav software & maps have not changed since 220721 which I installed 30th July.

2.- Battery precondition is available now in Europe, not an OTA, it must be installed by a dealer, and as it is an extra feature it is not free. It is not covered by any guartantee. in other words you must pay to get it installed.

Radio seems to have received the bulk of the software refinement attention for this update. I'm really pleased how far Hyundai/Kia has come from the weird vacuum tube look of the original software. However, not going to lie, super disappointed we still don't have wireless CarPlay / AA. Oh and the new peaceful soundscapes do sound kinda cool.

 

How long does it take for whole software update? Seems really long time it needs.

 

Mine took an hour or slightly less. Got a notification from Kia Connect App when it was complete.

 

About an hour. I had it installed while I was driving around. It’ll continue when you park. It was done when we came back from shopping. We were even charging while shopping.

 

Thanks above, I have not noticed any major difference after the update, my son found a clock added in the upper right corner of the backup camera screen, and that's all so far...

 

Ok I'm not just crazy. I wasn't sure if it was there before, but it felt new.

 

One thing that apparently got changed with the update is that you can no longer select the audio Surround mode directly from the Sound settings screen (Setup -> Sound); it used to be you could go to that screen and choose between Authentic, Surround, and Custom sound modes; now all you can do from that screen is adjust the Custom setting--in order to choose between the three different audio modes you have to go to the Radio screen and select the mode from there.

 

I noticed this too. Makes adjusting the sound scheme during CarPlay no longer possible as far as I can tell. Frustrating change. I believe the setting in BT, Radio or natural sounds are unique to those inputs.
