Indeed, many service centers face challenges in processing warranty repairs or reimbursing technicians for their time. However, it is commendable that certain service centers prioritize customer satisfaction and offer complimentary services, even if technicians perform these tasks during their personal time without compensation.
Some people have reported that their dealers won't do the infotainment updates, as it's considered a user updatable item. What that probably means is: it would take them a fair amount of time, they can't charge it to Kia as warranty service, and customers probably also don't want to pay for it. 💵

In that case, it is the technicians that deserve commendation rather than the challenged service centers or the challenging corporation.

I made an open source download client that runs on Linux (and just about any other desktop OS): GitHub - chenxiaolong/nudl: An unofficial client for downloading HMG infotainment firmware. The output is identical to what the official Navigation Updater tool produces. nudl verifies all checksums to ensure this. Note that this is a command line tool--there's no GUI.
Thanks for nudl, @chenxiaolong!

I was waiting to see if I got the update OTA despite having Kia Connect Lite as others reported and was going to wait for the June release, but I got impatient and wanted to give nudl a try.

I compiled nudl 0.1.1 from source on my Gentoo Linux laptop Wednesday (thanks also for using Rust) and ran it overnight. It exited with an error but rerunning nudl this morning verified the download checksums and exited without error. I copied the files to my flash drive and installed it this morning. As @alansh42 posted in another thread, I got the reinstall same version popup but verified that the 16 April version installed.

Now I can remove the shared 70GB ExFAT Windows data partition that Navigation Updater uses (and maybe Windows). Thanks, again!

It's a joke. Our OTA updates don't have any drivetrain improvements. After the 20th post of "What was improved?" AND not reading anything previous in this thread... I just lost it.

If I get any more HP in my GT, I'll be on a YouTube crash video. Like all of the Stangs. My GT gets very squirrelly when I'm giving it the juice and just a little turn. Or if stupidly press on the accelerator in Normal mode, then press the GT button.
What tires are on it? Mine is glued to the road even in the rain in GT mode.

You might want to re-read what I wrote... no mention of tire slip. Pulls to right or left when changing to GT from Eco WITH pedal to the metal. OEM wheels, original tires. 1k mi of wear (were off for winter). It hooks up so well, I have to be careful to stomp on it.

But if you want to talk rain/wet, these OEM tires will slip with a little off camber corner, slow speeds. But that's due to the suspension and I know my local roads where it happens.

Yeah, mine doesn't. Hammer it in normal, press GT, it just goes faster.

Alright, because we're about to drop some serious knowledge (and a little shade) on how Hyundai EV technicians might be getting played like a scratched Nickelback CD at a Beethoven concert. Here's the thing: while Hyundai EVs are like the hot new rap song everyone's bumping, the technicians who keep these things humming might not be getting the VIP treatment they deserve. From what I've gathered going all over US helping other service departments(and let's face it, some disgruntled mechanic forums), here's the symphony of discontent:Training Blues: Apparently, some Hyundai dealerships are stingy with EV training for their techs. Imagine trying to fix a high-tech electric car with a Haynes manual from the dark ages. It's a recipe for disaster (and probably some epic swearing under the hood).Tool Time Troubles: Working on EVs requires specialized tools, and some dealerships might be skimping on that too. It's like asking a brain surgeon to operate with a butter knife – not gonna end well.Compensation Confusion: Here's the real kicker: some techs might not be getting properly compensated for their specialized EV skills. They're basically the rockstars of the repair world, but getting paid like backup singers (no offense to backup singers, but you get the idea).Look, dealerships gotta make money, that's the name of the game. But penny-pinching on technician training and tools is a bad look. It's like putting on a concert with a broken sound system and a kazoo solo – nobody's gonna be happy.Hyundai EVs are supposed to be the future of driving, but if they're not treating their EV technicians right, it's gonna be a whole lot of breakdowns and unhappy customers. Dealerships need to step up their game, invest in their techs, and make sure they're properly trained and equipped. Otherwise, this electric symphony might turn into a heavy metal meltdown faster than you can say "warranty void."

@EV- Technician

You've got it right. And a poet besides. Good stuff.

As I've opined elsewhere, just about all dealer service technicians (ie. mechanics) are just that, mechanics. Probably a lot of really good ones, but they are not electronic technicians, which is necessary, in my opinion, to properly diagnose and service EVs.

Auto manufacturers such as Hyundai and Kia who are expecting the dealers to provide timely, good quality EV repair services are not being realistic. They need to take a look at how Tesla does it without the dealer network. Sure, Hyundai and Kia are still selling mostly ICE vehicles. But how much longer is that going to last?

I'm 81 and my work background was industrial electro-mechanical service technician and computer hardware support. In the military I was an electronics technician. Plus I've done pretty much all the service work on the many vehicles I have owned including everything from brake jobs, to tranny swaps to complete engine rebuilds. So I am comfortable with my thoughts about EV service technician requirements.

Can anyone confirm that the April 16, 2024 OTA contains the new features listed in the below thread by @dsdavis:

https://www.kiaevforums.com/threads...creenshots-of-the-infotainment-update-details.11554/?post_id=151829#post-151829

Namely, the big features were French and Spanish voice recognition in North America, Enhanced North American Radio Information Display (AM/FM), and the ability to apply sound effects to each media mode.

Did anything else update in regards to EV trip planning or the base map?

I did find that the adjustments for the Meridian sound system are available for all of the audio including Car Play, SXM, etc. like they were before they "hid" them the last time around.

I've read that maps included new roads, etc. as well as charge points.

Surround mode setting for Carplay/AA still must be accessed via BT Audio source though...

Maybe I'm misremembering, but after the October 12, 2023 update the Meridian sound adjustments sort of disappeared and you had to go into the SXM or radio settings to change them. (I recall some discussions about it here at the time.)

Can't recall, because I don't think I checked, but now when I tap on "Sound" in settings, all of the adjustments are available as there were before. I'm pretty sure something changed with the December or April updates, but I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. ;)

Correct--same principle applies but since the Surround mode button is not visible/accessible when in Carplay or AA mode, you have to connect your phone to the infotainment unit in BT Audio mode, then the Surround mode button will be present when you select BT Audio input on the headunit. Full disclosure--I did not install the April 2024 update so for all I know you may be correct in that the Surround mode setting is once again accessible from the Sound menu.

Full disclosure on my part, I'm using a BT wireless adapter. ;) So I can back out of Car Play by touching "Settings" on the lower climate control/stereo screen, then select "Sound" and all of the Meridian adjustments are there. Again, I could be misremembering, but it seems like after the October, maybe December update, they had disappeared and you had to dig around in SXM and/or the radio to see the settings (up in the right-hand corner). When you made any adjustments, they automatically applied to Car Play. I do remember that was very frustrating and that now it's not. :D

Did anyone's update wipe their driver profile. To day I powered the car up and had the white screens, no BT, no presets and a bunch of annoying features I long forgot about enabled. I thought that perhaps I pressed a user profile and when I checked profiles, their was only 1. Hopefully it doesn't take me nearly as long to get everything back the way that I had it but that process iniitally took me days if not a week to configure it all. And My Drive settings are all gone too. Is their a way to back up the profile to USB because that would be handy.

There are lots of reports on FB about this, and it doesn't even seem to be limited to the EV6. 🤷‍♂️
Well that's good to know, but annoying. I ran out during break and made a few changes but something I did notice is that it said "resetting user profile". Not sure what triggers that but I hope it isn't a frequent occurrence now.
