FITCAMX Integrated Dash Cam Review in my EV6 - Looks OEM!

8408 Views 123 Replies 29 Participants Last post by  TechnicallyJeff
I installed the new FITCAMX Integrated Dash Cam in my EV6 and I have to say I'm a huge fan. It is good quality and the phone app works well, and it literally looks OEM. And it's well under $200 for the front 4K dash cam after my NOW 10% OFF promo code. This is one of my mods I'm most excited about.

UPDATE! I'm giving one away! Good luck 😀

I'm not seeing the wifi link on my phone. Instructions say to connect camera before turning on car. But doesn't the wifi signal generator need power? Also tried with car on, no success. Also pushed the power button. Any ideas?

Thanks!

It's not showing the wifi available? It should automatically power on when you turn the car on.
It did finally show up after turning the camera button off and on a few times. I might note that the printed instructions do not show default wifi password, but online instructions show it to be 12345678.

Thanks for reply.

Glad you got it working!
Doing the drawing tonight at 6pm eastern time! Good luck everyone! 😀

Got mine today. Install is pretty simple, other than I probably overdid it with the carefulling to not break any plastic clips, as I am fairly prone to doing. But the Y-cable pretty clearly has a short in it. The mirror functions okay, but the camera won't stay turned on when I try to stash the wires inside the cowl. Pretty disappointing. I guess I'll report back on how their customer service is.

Oh that's a bummer. They should take care of you though. Let me know if you have any issues.

Well I emailed about an hour ago and they've already responded that they will send me a new cable. So that's good. fingers crossed.

Great!
Thanks for the installation video, Jeff. It was easy to follow along and really helped me when I did my installation. I find the app to be somewhat slow and picky about how it wants to be connected to the camera, but I hopefully shouldn’t need to do it often. Wish it supported 60 FPS, but the clean, integrated look pretty much makes up for it.

installed mine today. thanks for all the information on this forum which makes the installation go smoothly! @TechnicallyJeff @rkr and others. Especially want to thank @David m for chatting with me over the phone for half an hour and going over the whole process! If I can add one more tip, that will be to go with the passenger side instead of the driver side for the rear cam wire routing. There are fewer wires going through the rubber hose on the liftgate, so you will have an easier time running the wire through.

Received the replacement Y Cable today. Looks like it's differently constructed from the one that came with the cam, and should be less likely to short. I'll update after I get it installed.

Hopefully it works well for you!
I installed tonight with the replacement harness, and it went fine. The new Y harness was much better constructed than what I got originally, though a little bit trickier to get out of the way of the cowl. After a few minutes of messing around, I got everything snapped into place where it goes, and it does look OEM. If the fit seems off, it's probably not entirely snapped into place, or you have a cable or fastener in the way. I had to give it a couple of good taps with my fist to get it all where it belongs. It connected to the app fairly easily, and the video quality seems pretty good, though the only video I have at the moment is inside my garage. I have it set to the default to record 3 minute segments. I assume this is like a regular security camera and will just record one three-minute clip after another and then rewrites over the earliest clip. I couldn't figure out how to take a snapshot, but I only messed around with it for a minute. I'll have to spend a little more time on that.

Initial results are that I'm pleased. It's unobtrusive, and looks like it belongs there., which is great The only minor note I'd offer is that the plastic seems a bit lower quality than the OEM cowl, but I don't know that it matters much. It's not a high touch point area, and you'd likely never know if you weren't holding one back to back from the other. Hopefully it doesn't become a rattling issue, but I don't necessarily know that it would, just speculating about the difference the harder, less pliable plastic might potentially make. I will probably install a larger micro-SD card from the 64gb one it came with, and I'm not entirely certain why it came with a USB thumb-drive. Otherwise, this seems a good product for the price. There are probably better dash cams out there, but I doubt there are any that fit the car more seamlessly.

that's not a thumb-drive. it is the micro-sd card reader.

Duh. I didn't look that closely. Makes much more sense. Thanks. 🤦‍♂️

Fitcamx's website says that it comes with an SD card but is it a micro-SD card or a full-sized SD card? Thanks.
