Thank you. Is there 2 different types of projector lights?
I don't think so. Just US-> reflector and RoW-> projector.

There are two types of of plug connectors. US->14pin and RoW -> 20 pin. Almost all the pins just move locations. One pin is a 'large' pin in the US but needs to be a 'small' pin so you'd need to make a jumper or change the pin. I choose to make a jumper in the event I sell my EV6 and need to reinstall the old headlights.

They are all martx then was my reason for asking. I have access to a set with plugs and thinking of doing it. I hate my lights now, i get out of my car and into my MDX and cant believe the difference. When connected without an IFS module they are on full bright then? Kyle11111, I messaged you also.

My AHLS ECU finally showed up after almost 6 weeks, and I realized the extension harness didn't come with it like some do. I have the 8-pin connector to deal with instead of the 6-pin.

Any idea what the part number of the 8-pin connector is? Or the part number of the little 6-pin to 8-pin extension harness?

EDIT: I found the connector. Amphenol/generic pn: 42121000

As an early EV6 Adopter in Canada - and coming from the Stinger, I was and am still disappointed at the quality of these headlights in our $65K+ cars.

I have done research here about others folks in North America who have the same issue, and the intention behind this post is not too start another complaints thread, but more so find and gather the required information to potentially upgrade North American cars to projectors vs the dismal reflectors.

A couple of goals:
  1. Find out the variations between the pins and connection points between the two headlight variations,
  2. Discover whether they are plug and play or not (seen lots of speculation on here)
  3. If yes or no to the above, unravel how we North American's can potentially upgrade these terrible lights.

So far here is what I know
  • North American cars have a 14 pin connection into the headlight unit. I looked into the back of my headlight units and counted the number of wires.
  • I know about the TSB to aim the headlight higher, and have already done this as some cars (especially earlier units did not have this done by the dealer)
Will be continuously updating this with what I find to potentially find a solution.

If any of you European folks who have the matrix lights could help with any photos of your housings, pin array and potentially parts numbers it would be awesome.

PS I know there are a number of eBay listing with the matrix lights for sale, I've reached out to sellers to gather more information but they are either dormant or scams as they have yet to reply back to my messages in the last couple of months.

New 2022 EV6 owner here. Looking to upgrade my headlights, but finding it extremely difficult to find the full matrix head lamps. Does anyone have a good current source?

Your 1st task is to find the 20-pin harness plugs. Once you find that, you'll probably need to buy a used set from Naver with matching cost to ship ($500+/$500+ per set).
This is parts list for the full install (most just do the headlight). Matrix Part List

This is the 20-pin data sheet. http://www.ket.com/kr/product/detail-information.ket?partNumber=MG657201-5 The source that was selling them has stopped. Kia only sells a complete front harness (EU that is).

Here is a light unit. You'd need to use a reshipper and expect $250+ to ship per light and a fee.

Search on Naver *use a browser that can translate unless you read Korean.

Thank you! I shall get started finding those connectors today. I already have my bid in for one of Kyle's rear harnesses for the sequentials, so this is my next target.

Someone please make a video on how to do this installation. 🙏
Well, mine are already installed... so no video. I doubt anyone will uninstall to make an install video. Maybe 10 installs but could be just a few.

Here ia rough PDF guide. Really not much to install just the headlights once you find the 20-pin plugs.

Full matrix portion is way above my interest. I really just wanted the sequential turns. I didn't want to take apart the dash and don't own an $800 programing tool. [read back through this thread to see the programming requirements].

I am currently sourcing the Korean spec headlights. While I'm not seeing a whole lot of 92101-CV100, I AM seeing 92101-CV1. Are these part numbers equal or...?
Not sure. They appear to be projector headlights.

Bigger question: do you have a source for the 20-pin plug(MG657201-5)? You can buy the lights but then won't be able to use them... unless you can make your own plug.

I have a line on some used plugs and they should be here in January. I'm waiting to buy the headlights until I confirm they are the correct plugs on receipt. I just want to be sure I'm ready I buy the right headlights when the plugs are confirmed.

Christmas came early this year! Now I just need to get the headlamps.

Have both (Korean) headlamps, connectors as of this AM; the IFS and AHLS units plus their respective conn’s/harnesses en route. Hoping to get this done by NYE 🤞

For the literally-impossible-to-find MG657201-5 connectors, I caved and dropped ~260 on a front-end harness from ebay (at least I have other spare connectors and pre-terminated crimps 🤷‍♂️).

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has contributed to this wealth of knowledge! I live in a rural area so having functional headlights is a literal necessary for survival.

As such, i'll subsequently document before/after examples demo'ing why the stock reflector headlights are objectively dangerous, and submit a formal complaint to NHTSA's ODI. QED: I've had my EV6 for ~9 months and have had four near misses with deer because I cannot see jack shit at night.

Good find on the 20-pin connectors. You might be able to part out the remaining harness plugs. If someone breaks a sensor or has rodent damage, they might want just one/two of the plugs.

Also, the projector headlights are in demand. I'm hanging onto mine so I can go back to stock when I trade/sell.

Just to set expectations, the projector lamps are better, but not that much better. They still are subpar imo compared to the competition and it seems Kia fixed that with the refresh (with an uglier front end lol). They are visually nicer at least.

However the high beam performance is way better so that may help you in rural areas.
