I am at the point where I am close to needing new tires. My original kumho crugen hp71 235/55 R19 101H have 33,500 miles on them at this point. I have read some different write ups on different tires but just don’t want to spend a grand and be disappointed.
Has anyone replaced their tires and happy with what they have? I would like a tire that I could get more than a year from them. I do not drive in sport mode often nor do I drag race either.
I need a tire that reduces road noise, good in wet conditions and gives me the best range.
I don’t need for snow as we don’t get much here in NC and if we do I will take my other car.
appreciate any help.

Hello people,
What are you using for 20" summer tires?

I have the Michelin PS4 SUV (MO) - which where great but I'll need to replace them next summer (around April in the UK). I'd love to get the Continental Premium Contact 7 - which seem to be the best now but they don't make them in our size :(

Ideas are welcome - thank you

PS
This might be of interest they even tested an EV6

Lots of suggestions in the preceding pages, my choice so far is the Hankook Ion Evo AS SUV.

Yes, it will hurt range by roughly 7-8% per my testing in my ev6 GT. This is both meaningless, and a big deal. However, I would argue that if your safety margin is 8%, you probably need a different vehicle or travel plan. 8% is a headwind instead of a tail wind.

Now, as to the traction profile, it is quiet and does well on dry, clean pavement as well, but the real stand out is wet pavement. It is the best wet braking tire I've tested (ion as suv and psas4 being the other two, and it bested the psas4 by a significant margin, stopping from 60 in 150ft vs 177ft. The ion as suv was abysmal at over 190ft).

But it keeps getting better. My tires have 13k miles on them at present and are still at 8/32. My PSAS4s were down to about 5-6/32 by now. The CC2 just holds up absurdly well even hooning around on them.

If range were all he cared about, the CC2 takes a back seat to Ion AS SUV by about 7-8% as noted (they tested near identical to psas4 for me), but OP also said longevity and wet traction were a big deal, and the cc2 dominates at those two. Now, it is up to OP as to whether that Trump's the slight range drop. I now get 3.3mi/kwh instead of 3.5-3.6. I can live with that for the other factors mentioned. Also, IF there is snow, CC2 does well. Also. Mud. They do really well in mud.

I got the Hankook Ion Evo AS SUV and I’m not sure how I feel about them. In dry conditions they’re fine but in the wet there’s definitely less traction than the stock Continentals they replaced. I’m 5k in so we’ll see, but with normal driving in the rain my confidence has taken a hit since getting these tires.

I've got a set of iON Evos coming Friday. Kudos to Tire Rack for scaring me up a set this week; they're OOS until Jan 2.

I see nothing in the Tire Rack test that causes me to doubt my choice. Wet braking is only 12' worse than the best, > 1 car length. I can deal with that. Over many tests, it's easy to conclude that wet traction and rolling resistance must be traded off... the best wet braking came from the highest RR tire.

Just this morning I had a set of Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 tires installed. The main factors that influenced my choice...

1. This tire comparison review from Tirerack: What’s the Best Touring Tire for Premium CUVs? – 2024 Test 2

2. Feeling that I don't need or want an All-Weather tire like the Michelin CrossClimate 2 or Pirelli Scorpion Weatheractive because snow events are pretty limited where I live and, since I am retired, I can choose to not drive when it does snow. So, I saw no reason to accept the tradeoffs of potentially increased noise levels, higher rolling resistance and shorter treadlife.

3. Sam's club had a deal of $100 off a set of 4, plus 50% off of the installation package. Total price including tax and disposal of my old tires was $898. That price is less than $100 more than if I had bought the completely unknown Sumitomo tires that I was considering. Seems to be a good deal.

I've only driven 25 miles on them, so time will tell.

How are the Pirelli's working out? louder / quieter . ride quality . you know the details

I installed Scorpion AS Plus 3 in December 2023. I have put 12K on them in 80Local/20Hwy driving. Original tread are 9mm. Now, Front Tires are down to 7mm. Rear Tires down to 6mm. So far pretty happy. They still have much better traction in snow/ice conditions than Krugen OE. Just not as quiet as OE but definitely quieter than CrossClimate2. If these make it past 30K, than I will be pretty pleased.

I have had the Weatheractives on my car for about 15k miles now.

I don't have detailed/documented range info, but my gut/anecdotal feeling is that the efficiency decrease would likely be less than 3%.

Once you've fully "acclimated" to range/charging worries that are inevitable with EV road-tripping, any efficiency reduction would be within the margin of error.

After a good deal of research on TireRack, and a white-knuckle drive down our hill after a fresh 1" snowfall, I bought and just had installed yesterday a set of Continental Cross Contact LX25 tires.

I had narrowed it down to these, or Michelin CC2, or Michelin Defender, or the Pirelli Scorpion AS +3.

Besides wanting a tire that got high ratings in all categories (as all of these did), I was looking for one with a high mileage rating, since I didn't even get 20k on my OEM Kuhmos and am hoping to avoid buying another set before my lease runs out on two years (which will be in about another 32k miles).

I think they're all good choices (though not "EV" tires, so likely a bit noisier and with some degree of range hit - hoping it's not too bad 🤞), and I'm not sure I picked the best one, but after a few days, I had gotten tired of mulling it over and pulled the trigger. The Defender is a pretty old design and as much as I loved the CC2 on our CX-5, I had read on a Tesla forum that some claimed they caused a 20% range hit. Who knows.

I can say the Contis are definitely louder than the OEM, but not anything crazy and I'm sure we'll get used to the new normal. Of course the snow traction is a huge improvement since my old Crugens were down to 4/32" of tread and were scary as hell with any fresh snow on the road.

I'll let you know what I think of them after some more miles. It's too hard right now to compare range numbers because our temps have been all over the place, high thirties one day and single digits a day later. FWIW, the Continentals have "EcoPlus Technology", whatever that is. Most likely just marketing BS. 😂

Part of me wishes I got the Michelin CC2s. They were great on my Telluride, although that’s a completely different car. I got the Hankook Evos and it leaves a lot to be desired. Wet traction isn’t great. Even dry traction is just ok. I’m just looking forward to replacing these, although that won’t be anytime soon since I only have about 15k on them.

What’s the difference between the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 and the Scorpion ZERO AS Plus 3? I’m wondering if the latter is the SUV equivalent of the P Zero AS Plus 3, which are pretty well regarded on TireRack anyway.

I currently have analysis paralysis between the Scorpion Zero AS Plus 3 and the Continental DWS06+. Driving myself nuts…..

I read another review in the last day that said something like "they're a little worse in rain so I assumed they'd be way worse in snow, but they aren't, they're about as good as any other AS." So I guess maybe I'll stick with them. There doesn't seem to be a clearly better option (for my uses) until the CrossClimate 3s are out in July.

I am very pleased with the Ion Evo SUV tires. They are in the ballpark for RR relative to OEM, and I found their traction meets my needs, especially in snow. Cold performance was my greatest concern, and they meet my needs.

As someone who put CrossClimate+ on his wife's car in 2017, I'm a great fan of this tire line, and I dearly wish this tire came out a year sooner! That said, I am wary of performance changes for the US market. The EU CrossClimate2 is very different from the tire we get here. I expect that pattern to repeat.

Beware the "worst tire ever" responses as they're usually from someone who hit a patch of oil.

I have been very happy with my choice of Michelin Defender LTX M/S XL.
I noticed the smallest loss of range as my average was a solid 3.6 and now it’s just under that but the grip in bad weather is far superior to the originals.
the best part is that I have now put on 86,844 miles on these and they still have life left in em. My original tires only got me 37k. I would not hesitate to buy again.

Most of my mileage is highway Driving and I don’t tend to “Launch“ it very often. Taking out the stop and go of city driving is probably the reason of the amount of miles I have been able to go. I have had one tire that got a nail in it and created a slow leak that I needed to get patched but that has been the only issue. I do get my tires rotated when needed which also helps and I feel a lot of drivers overlook this.
