Shattered Glass Roof Panel, anybody?

Well, I have had the car for 2 weeks already and love it. However, while driving today to work I heard a loud pop, when I get to the parking lot I checked the car and found the glass between the windshield and the sunroof was shattered. The road was quite empty and there were no cars around me, I'm sure nothing hit the car to the point to completely shatter the glass like that. Here are the pics.
Have anybody experience anything like that?! Do you think this could be a warranty item? I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow morning and wanted to get some other stories (if any).

If there's clearly no impact mark, and there's none visible in the photos, it was probably an installation problem putting stress on the glass. One too many bumps and it shatters.

I didn't even realize that panel was glass. My car is black, so I thought it was just a metal portion of the roof like the back portion. Why would this panel be glass? It's got to be more expensive and certainly heavier than if it was metal.

Man, what a bummer. Sorry to hear about it. I know it can happen unexpectedly.

My brand new 1985 Buick Park Avenue‘s moonroof exploded unexpectedly on my then wife, now ex, but still a friend. There was no apparent external damage. It was replaced under warranty. I seem to remember they said that it appeared the window frame, all that was left of the glass, was slightly crooked in the opening. However, it still opened/shut normally.

Flexing will cause that, nothing new, glass doesn't belong on roofs, yet every body is acting like they need it so that they can look at the damn sky.
Pano roofs are the worst, they increase cost, raise the center of gravity by being heavy and reduce interior head room, and god forbid something hit your roof, it will offer no protection and will shatter glass everywhere.
Car manufacturers need to stop their pano roof crap.

You would think that EV manufacturers would offer Lite versions as their top trims to optimize agility and range. Instead, they double down and load up on heavy crab like panoramic roofs and powered seats then try to compensate (mostly unsuccessfully) with heavier battery packs.

Same mentality that culminated in the 8-12 MPG behemoths of the '60s and '70s.

I realise the horse has bolted.....but a dashcam could have possibly helped your case wrt a stone or object hitting. Perhaps Kia could interrogate their on-board camera :) . Looks like a stress fracture to me...or over expansion of the metal segment. We don't have that temperature problem in the UK.:sneaky:

Wow, it does seem strange to have that part in Glass.

As for the issues, manufactures in the UK have suffered this issue, Jaguar, Land Rover and Range Rovers that had fixed glass roof panels, some of these cracked under the stress movement of the car and these were all replaced under warranty, Ford had an issue with there opening sunroofs at once point that was done to the stress put on the fixings, hope this is a one or two car issue and not a major recall.

Keep us posted on how you get on.

Interesting, I live in Ohio and exposed to similar temperatures. Have you taken the car to the dealer yet? What did they say? In my case, they said it will be decided by Kia Corporate and so far they haven't received an answer. My car had only 400 miles when the glass shattered, how many miles your had?

@WranglerEV and @MPSI Security I'd report this to the Kia Consumer Assistance Center at the following link or call them at 800-333-4542 so that the info gets passed back to the factory because it sounds like this will happen to more people.

I'm curious, when this happened, did the car go from one extreme temperature to another? For example, was it really cold outside and then you parked it in a heated garage.
