Should I pull the trigger?

Hello I'm a soon to be EV6er and have a solid quote for a Runway Red GT-Line AWD with no dealer adds for $3510 below the MSRP and will use KIA Financing incentive of $3750 off so total is $51890 and then pay it off in a week. How can I say no to this deal? I must say I do love the car, but have been a bit of a toe dipper as I have been seeing some of the problems folks have had with their cars. I do want it though and will never buy a Tes%#. I need some encouragement.

As Nike says, Just do it!

You won’t be sorry and that’s a great deal. And not everyone has problems or crappy dealerships. Mine, knock wood, has been nearly perfect as has my dealer. You know many people on the forum are here to complain. But there are many more who are happy.

I now have 20,000 miles on my EV6 GT-Line FE. Best car I have ever driven. After fifty years, I will never go back to ICE. There are always problems with crappy dealers but you have to go with the car itself.

I am an old man. I had to wait this long and three dozen cars for them to get it right.

As others have said, the forums can be a bit off putting from a potential owners point of view as problems are often discussed (but also many many positive comments and
assistance as well). There would be lots of owners that don't post anywhere and are presumably happy. I have no regrets, love the car, best I've ever owned !!! Don't miss out 😃

Some of the first generation issues have most likely been corrected. Every manufacturer has issues, BEV or ICE, it all depends on how they treat you and if they stand behind their car. My car ICCU has failed last week after 13 months of ownership. One dealer I called could not see it for 3 weeks, the other one diagnosed it and ordered the part the same day. They even offered to pay for a rental which I declined for now since I do have a backup car and I don't drive much.
Other than this my car was flawless and I do love my car. If they can fix it in a month I will be a happy owner. If the issue goes on, I will consider my options according with the consumer laws in my state. I got used to drive electric, instant torque is addicting. I do have a large solar array and I pretty much drive for free, I cannot go back to burning dyno juice. I took a look at the BEV and PHEV market and I can't find a decent alternative to EV6 in this price range. Long-term I do have concerns with the replacement parts cost, everyone knows the battery is expensive, but the motors, reduction box, various inverters, infotainment, etc are also expensive. Even a plastic tail light is about $1,400. Some of these concerns are mitigated by the generous 10 years warranty, some can be mitigated with extended warranty. These being said, I would mostly likely buy EV6 again, there should be even less issues on 2023 models.

One more thing, I would recommend reviewing the car features carefully in order to see if there are any must-have features for you that are missing. Just to set the right expectations, for example my Wind does not have an auto-dimming driver side mirror which seems to be the norm for Kia, also the Homelink mirror seems to be an option which can easily be added later. You do have a sweet deal, many of us bought at MSRP or even over not long ago.

I have owned my 2022 EV6 Wind RWD since April 2022, No issues what so ever! I'm age 69 , retired, and will always drive Electric going forward, absolutely love it! That's a heck of a deal you got going with the dealer, pull the trigger before someone else takes that deal!

It's an amazing car that's meets or exceeds every reasonable expectation. Dealers are an issue but in my case worth the hassle.

Saving $2-$3k a year in fuel costs while driving a fun, efficient, fast car is a sweet deal.

Looks like a good price. Have owned a GT Line AWD for one year and love the car. No troubles with the car or charging. Remember, folks with problems will let you know the problems, owners with no problems, are not as likely to post.

I just took home an EV6 Wind AWD, got a similar deal of just shy of 6k under MSRP with the financing rebate. To give you a bit of an idea, I’m coming from an ID.4. Didn’t want to make the shift because I still think the ID.4 is more practical for my wants, but it turned out that with my joints and size, I wasn’t able to find a seat and steering wheel position that alleviated chronic joint strain caused by driving the ID.4. Something that didn’t show up on the hours of test drives, sadly. So that’s that.

The EV6 was my #2 pick when I was looking the first time, after renting and driving an Ioniq 5 for a couple days. The e-GMP platform is good, but I wasn’t a fan of the styling on the Hyundai version, and both the EV6 and Ioniq 5 felt more like a cross between a sporty sedan and a hot hatchback when what I really want is a wagon. That said, it’s kinda more important to not be aggravating a health condition, so I made the jump this week after convincing myself not to fall for the sunk cost fallacy. So far, I’m enjoying it.

If you like the car and the price, go for it. It’s not like the EV competition is not having teething problems of their own.

Do it! Note that reading forums like this, you'll probably hear more about issues since... people come here for advice. And most people with issues still like the car (not so much the dealers)

I have the exact same car as the one you are eyeing since last August. Love it despite the eye gouging premium back then! Haven't done a road trip yet but otherwise no issue.

Consider doing PPF and ceramic coating sooner rather than later and refuse any similar add on the dealer might offer.

After a year, I’m still happy with the purchase. Granted I haven’t had any of the major problems some other members have had. I just have one rattle in the passenger side A-pillar.

I’ve taken it to the Rockies and it’s a fantastic road trip car. This is really dependent on your area’s charging density and reliability and I’m fortunate to have both so it made road tripping easier. But there’s been a huge uptake in EVs in the past year so this summer may be interesting (just wondering if I’ll have to deal with queues). It’s powerful and stable at high speeds. You do lose a bit of overtaking power beyond 65-70mph but up til then, it’s pretty good. Last summer was hot (35-40°C) and it still charged like a champ. And performed like one too (DC charged then drove up a mountain at the speed limit of 75mph).

Around town, it’s smooth and quiet.

A car is likely the most costly purchase after a house. But there is no price on the emotional satisfaction of owning either. So if you can afford it without having to sacrifice your peace of mind, go for it.
Some considerations on the financial side that may or may not apply to you:
  • Insurance costs (went up for me)
  • Cost to install an EV charger at home. In my case, my old, old house breaker panel was a fire hazard (FPE Stab-lok) so replacing it and installing the charger cost mucho dinero.
  • DMV registration costs per year will likely be more
  • Charging costs vary. In the long run, TCO for EVs is supposed to be less than gas, but based on the current pricing of EVs, that run is very long.
Also, range anxiety is real, even with the best route planning!

Weirdly we pay more insurance on our Mini (that costs less) than on our EV6!

But yeah, more than on our old Bolt
Two things. You'll love it, I was hesitant too but that went away in one day! Second, test drive a RWD, you can save 4 grand, and I have never thought I needed more power, but I have needed more range which the RWD gives you. Happy motoring!

Just bought a GT and borrowed the minimal amount of $10k that Kia requires. They also require minimum three months payment before you pay off the balance, so factor in 3 months of interest in 10k was $150 plus extra hour of my time to draw up paperwork. Good deal to get that rebate...

But.... The answer to your question is: Don't do it. At this point, unless you roadtrip every week, the GT is the only model you should consider. Better looking, more performance, and those seats that hold you like they are making love to you.

I have had my EV6 for over a year now and am really pleased with its performance and comfort. The mileage range in the winter is lower but even though Kia advertises 310 miles I am getting a range in warmer 80 degree weather of 350 miles on a full charge. The design on this vehicle is terrrific and I've been driving lots of models in the past 60 years and put this one on top. The length inside is even longer than my Acura SUV so great for hauling longer items.

Got mine in January. Absolutely love it. Best car I've ever owned, hands down.

That’s much less than we paid for our 2022 model. I LOVE driving this car and really have had no significant issues with it. Had it over a year now and runs great. Go for it.

I bought mine five months ago as MSRP with 2 dealer add ons ( was not happy about that). But I took the plunge anyway. Never been more happy with the car. The best car I ever owned. I haven't checked prices lately, but I think that is a great price. You will not regret it. Good luck!
