Subwoofer removal

I am thinking about removing the subwoofer when I get the EV6. I do not care about the music much anyway and rather want the boot space. Hopefully this will not trigger a bunch of error alarms...

Up-plug it and see what happens before you remove it. I guess it depends on what you need the space for.

Cabels, varoius other stoffer which always is in the car...All my cars until now have had this lower boot space and I love it, as the "normal" boot is then clean and empty without stuff flying around when driving 👍

And yes, good idea with unplugging first...
In many cars with an upgraded Soundsystem, the subwoofer in the trunk works as a "re amp", meaning, it has a amplifier in it more powerful than the amplifier ind the dashboard, witch means, it amplifies all the speakers in the car, so it could mean, you would not have any sound in the car at all.

You can Google this by googleling "re amp" and/or "retro fit subwoofers"

Maybe it would just be easier and more "safe" to try and order the car without the upgraded sound system?

I already asked for this option, but it is not possible to order it without in the GT Line, so it will be something to fix afterwards.
I btw. also asked for lowering springs / lowered suspension, but KIA does not offer a solution for this and I have asked them how they will handle this in terms of warranty etc.. I guess it is new for KIA to have "Sporty" cars like EV6 and Stinger and with that these option requests follow...

As it is this for now the EV6 will be my first car for 20 years without lowered suspension :-(

From the size of that box, the amp is probably located in that space as well.

Maybe in the future KIA might offer additional suspension components or a vehicle with a "sport package" however, for now, the aftermarket scene will step up and offer those once the car is out.
Why not use the front storage for the cables and spare materials --> Frunk.
Also the regular booth in the back has a small spare space between bottom to generate a flat bottom. Most likely I will remove that part when I go on holiday, but leave it in during regular trips to work.

I will put all the items in the frunk to make sure the back booth is clean and organized.

I can confirm that you can just unplug the sub and nothing happens. It's for sure a fully passive woofer in a big plastic enclosure - it's even quite light, so you know there's not much magnet there. The connector has 4 wires, but I'm guessing they're just two and two for extra current handling, rather than using heaver gauge = more expensive/bulky connector.

The woofer box sits about 5 3/8" off the ground, the tub itself is 6 5/8" deep from the lip that the cover rests on, and the tub is about 9" long in the short direction (didn't think to measure the width, sorry).

I tried A/B testing with the sub unplugged and plugged in, and even with the load floor AND cover panel both open, I absolutely could not tell the difference.

Great pictures etc, I am sure it will assist others.

If it makes no difference with it plugged in or not I wonder if the amplifier is faulty as you should be able to tell the difference, question is where is this located?

see other thread; the amp and sub are working fine. The sub is just godawful underdesigned.
Is the same subwoofer in the Wind trim? I have ordered a Wind AWD w/tech package. I don't recall seeing the subwoofer like that in the unit I test drove. For comparison, I have a 2020 Leaf SL Plus which has a big subwoofer box in the back taking up maybe a cubic foot of storage space. I would have preferred not to have it but never really thought about removing it.

How do you get the plastic cover off that's between the cargo area and the sub?

There are two grab-holes about 2ft apart centered on the far-from-you edge. Lift up on those to free the front-edge snaps. Then try best you can to lift the cover out vertically, rather than tilting it up towards you. There are more alignment tabs on the back side towards the bumper. They aren't snaps, but if you tilt it towards you, they'll bend.

If you unsnap the far-from-you edge with the finger holes, then go gently from there, you'll figure it out without breaking anything.

First Post - I was supposed to pick my EV6 last Wednesday. When the dealer attempted to do the software update they came up with error message, and apparently they were directed to "replace with known good part". Now the audio system does not work period. They cannot tell me if it worked prior to the update. So I am still waiting for my car.

It took a week before my dealer could even come up with plan to get another part. I know there are supply chain issues, but it seems short sighted to sell cars that you have very limited means to repair. Anyway currently hoping to have my car in about 3 weeks, and is if a replacement amp fixes the issue, which is what the dealer is telling me should happen.

Both door speakers go out on my car after playing for about 5 seconds or so when i turn the car on. dealer kept it for a week and ended up ordering a new part. Amps are currently on backorder so I cant even get an eta. No door sounds mean no warning noise either for lane assist.

Woooooooof. Sorry, that stinks.
There are several things you need to consider when buying a speaker, and one of them is how loud the best speaker is. I don't know about others, but for me it plays a vital role. Thanks to a web resource speakersize.net I was able to choose the speaker size suitable for my car. I love listening to music, and that's why it's important for me to have good speakers in the car.
Speaker dB sensitivity plays an important role as well; ideally you'd want one that's rated in the very high-80s at a minimum, and if you can get one that's rated at 90 dB or above, even better.
