Tesla Magic Dock, we (EV6 users) won’t be using it

Looking at the reports while they work seamlessly, the extremely short magic dock cable means that we and Mach E owners won’t be charging according at least according to normal Tesla parking etiquette.

Yay for choices that actually work! Nay for getting your car keyed because you “BEV’d” a Tesla spot. Maybe v4 will fix it but I would doubt it. Perhaps this was Musk’s plan, open ‘‘em on paper, grab the subsidy bounty and let the war begin.

For FME, it's an issue. For us, it's located far enough towards that back it should be fine.

Tesla SC would be my last option if there is nothing out there. I prefer EA because they are faster and cheaper. So far, I have no issues with EA... only wish they would also have Autocharge+ like EVgo. I think EA will start get it shit together.

I really believe Tesla is half-assing it to please the government while trolling and taking federal funds to save their bleeding/tanking companies.

I am certain that extension cables will exist should the V4 SC not provide any length of cable.

This is a problem not only for Tesla SCs but everyone. As more SUVs and Trucks show up you cannot expect perfect charging port placement. The Cyber Truck (if it ever actually comes out) will quickly show the issues with these stations once they start pulling trailers. You need to be able to pull through a station, like gas stations are set up to do. So you can pull to either side of the unit, and the trailer is a non issue.

If Tesla starts putting out SUVs and Trucks their setup will quickly show its flaws once trailers are introduced.

Out of Spec Reviews charged a GV60 which has the same port placement as the EV6. It did mean parking in the "wrong" space though, which could be an issue if the station is full.

I am going to be an outlier here and say the stations were poorly designed. How are their Cyber Trucks going to charge when pulling trailers?

But it's on the opposite side of the car from a Tesla so you'll have to park in the next spot over still blocking a charger. not as bad or as obvious as the Mustang but still likely to cause resentment.

Yup...Tesla going out of business while making almost $13B of net income last year...

they are supposedly going to increase pull through charging stations

hence my comment about getting your ev6 keyed

they already have model X pull through stations for towing so I’d imagine they increase those but it still doesn’t help anyone else. I suspect the federal stipend they get for “opening” their network actually goes to that.

the Ionity charger is how it should be designed. Even the EA chargers barely reach without a lot of stress on the port… why they decided to drop the cable from the top when all of our ports are waste height. Plain stupid engineering.

There is a new 20 station Tesla Supercharger lot in Barstow, CA along with 20 (free!) L2 stations. Right next to the outlet stores and a couple hotels. A half dozen of the SC's are side access. They were doing extensive work on these a couple weeks ago - maybe CCS upgrades?

That’d be cool if that was the case. Then I question the logic to any 90 degree access SCs getting a retrofit. Very few other EVs will benefit without a redesign.
If I am on a road trip and need to hit a magic dock station to make a hop, and Tesla has not fixed cable length.. Darn straight I will block a stall. I will move over as far as I can to not fully block, but I am darn well use it given my tax dollars are funding it.

If they take fed $ to open their system and build it that way it is on them for bad design and cheaping out in the solution instead of doing it right or as intended by the funding.

LOL, based on my own unscientific observation many of the trailer hitch receptacles on ICE trucks I've seen during my travels look like they've never seen a hitch inserted into them their entire lives...and that's not even counting those trucks that don't even have a trailer hitch installed whatsoever.

There are quite a few, just look for camper trailers in the season, they are all pulled by trucks.
In a pinch, I am more than willing to use the Tesla chargers. Given the poor speed we will charge at, I would likely only spend enough time there to charge enough to get to a higher power charger (and back if it is dead).
It is called last ditch charging….

It is just nice to know we have further options now than we previously had. In a pinch we can use a Tesla charger. Especially in areas that are not as charger populated.

More expensive, slower, and badly set up for cars that don't have their charging ports exactly where Tesla puts them. Billions in government subsidies to support the charging solution of last resort. Elon Musk may be mental, but he knows how to make a buck.
