My yacht blue GT-Line AWD with black "leather" interior arrived Friday, after ordering in June. I think the dealer rushed a few things to get me out of their hair. The wash wasn't great, it was only charged to 48%, it came with carpet floormats that I didn't want or order (I already bought all-weather mats), and one wheel was missing a center cap, which I didn't realize until the following day. Apparently they already knew this, but didn't bother telling me. They told me on Saturday they'd have the center cap yesterday but I don't think they realized it was a holiday. Experience with the dealer was kind of par for the course, based on my previous 8 months with them. They acted like they were doing me a favor by selling me the car, and they tried to slip a $2500 "protection package" into the sale (charging brick, undercoating, window tint...). When I told them I didn't want it and wasn't going to pay for it, they acted like it was a major thing and the salesguy tried to argue with me about how other dealers are marking the cars up, and removing it amounted to a dealer "concession." I told them to call it whatever they wanted, I was still not paying for it. Pretty weird considering how many sales I imagine they've lost after the tax rebate went away and Tesla not only dropped their prices but are now eligible for the rebate. I also had to argue with the finance guy over how I don't buy extended warranties. (Maybe I'm weird, but I think trying to sell an extended warranty on a brand new car is basically saying "this car isn't as reliable as it should be." YMMV.)
Anyway, long story short (too late): I paid MSRP for the car, and put some mileage on it over the weekend. Overall, I'm happy, but remain unimpressed by the Kia dealer. I don't think they're super used to dealing with people who buy $60k cars. I do want to tint the front windows a bit more, but definitely wasn't going to pay $2500 for it. Living with a 110v charge for a while to see if it's enough for my normal driving. Seems like it probably will be, especially since I don't commute for work. I topped off the battery with a DC fast charger, and that was pretty seamless, but I don't imagine I'll need to do that very often. Probably not worth the expense at the moment to wire my garage for Level 2. So far I've added the all-weather floor mats, an all-weather cargo mat, a cargo cover, and some seatback covers. On order are some after-market mudflaps. I'm working my way through the menu settings to get it dialed in how I want it. Going from German luxury brands to a Kia is a bit of a mental adjustment, but I've had nothing but compliments on the car so far. Thanks for attending my TED talk.
