Crickets for me. I haven't put a deposit down at the dealer; waiting for the "national" or manufacturer pre-order like what Hyundai has done with the Ioniq 5.
Received word yesterday from the sales manager at the closest Kia EV approved dealer that the regional sales rep notified him Canadian pre-orders open mid-October. I signed up with Kia Canada for email updates a few months ago and have little information coming from them. Other than the pre-launch reveal online it's been crickets from Kia Canada.Wanted to open a thread here for us Canadians to share information that we hear from our dealerships around availability, pricing and options.
I've currently preemptively put down a deposit in early March 2021 with my local deal to "reserve" a GT-Line.
Curious since the July 27th reveal (which didn't reveal much) anyone has heard anything?
Well at least that’s an update. The dealer I put a deposit with said they weren’t expecting anything till October so sounds about rightReceived word yesterday from the sales manager at the closest Kia EV approved dealer that the regional sales rep notified him Canadian pre-orders open mid-October. Sounds like we are getting our vehicle from the same dealer! Looking forward to it and thank you for sharing!I ordered from Kia west. All they could tell me is that they are expecting more information in October in terms of pricing and trims.
Maybe I can help by explaining what Kia Corporate told me back in May 2021 when I called in to ask about pre-orders, and what they shared with me. Essentially they told me they have no pre-order process nor were they thinking of one. Given this - the dealers like Kia West and their new pre-order landing page, are facilitating this.I'm not sure I understand people putting deposits with dealers for this EV in particular, and highly anticipated EVs in general. My understanding is that pre-orders from consumers are filled before dealer sales and inventory. At least that is how my dealer and Kia's regional sales manager explained it. Based on delayed deliveries of the Ioniq 5 in the US I don't expect the EV6 to be delivered in Canada until late Q2 2022 at the earliest. However, that's a guess on my part. Time will tell.
Okay, so the FIRST official useless update on the progress of the EV6 to us here in the US!
Today is the first day that our internal inventory tracking system even recognizes the existence of the EV6. This is VERY good info because this means that they are actively building the vehicle electronically in the system. This is the final step before assigning vehicles to dealers and then having details around pricing and trim levels.
I'm such a dork....
Highly suggest following along in the above thread. @MurlinatoR is an insider and his insight can give us a glimpse into how the Kia and Hyundai processes work. If anything - what's happening in the US could foreshadow what happens for us here in the North.I sell both Hyundai and Kia, although Hyundai doesn't sell their EV through the entire dealer network and only though 19 states. I will tell you that typically Kia's orders get filled faster than Hyundai's. Also, I'm expecting the EV6 to come in around $1,500 or so less than the Ioniq5.
All I can say is the communication you shared nicely avoids the topic of the future possibility of pre-orders and simply told you there is no existing wait-list. They also told you any deposit with a dealer for a vehicle you may not get is not their problem. I spent a decade writing such drivel and there are lines to read between. Who knows what will occur for sure? I'm going to give more credence to a Regional Sales Manager through the local Kia EV dealer's Sales Manager rather than a Customer Experience Manager when I'm told pre-orders will be opening for Canada mid-October and that the closest dealer to you will be the delivery dealer unless you specify a preferred dealer. That's some pretty specific information that you wouldn't think is made up. And if they didn't really know why wouldn't they be trying to get my deposit instead of giving me a heads up in advance about pre-orders that won't happen? I guess we should soon know for sure.Maybe I can help by explaining what Kia Corporate told me back in May 2021 when I called in to ask about pre-orders, and what they shared with me. It appears they don't even know what the process is. My perspective is - ultimately to get the vehicle you need to go through a dealer here in Canada, but I am biased and could be wrong.
However I recall that our American friends had a pre-order that was delayed by about a week because of the overwhelming demand on their site. Either - hope we all get out vehicles.
Below is t he exchange between myself and the Kia Canada.

@Lechon and I are both working with Kia West - and they’ve been pretty good thus far. They are also a “volume dealer” so chance are they will be amongst the first to get the vehicle. This is why I personally went with them - over the other dealers here in the Vancouver area. All I can say is the communication you shared nicely avoids the topic of the future possibility of pre-orders and simply told you there is no existing wait-list. I haven’t heard a thing from Kia west. I was hoping for at least one update a month but not a whisper.Anyone hear any news?
To be honest I am kind of getting impatient with the lack of communication and ambiguity + feeling like we up in the North are always shafted when it comes to product releases. The fact that our American friends at least have had a pre-order process is frustrating alone.
I'm thinking about calling my local dealer to check in and would appreciate if anyone else can try and pry information and share it here.
Really? That seems really early. Even the US won't get the standard models until late winter (only the First Editions in January).@OneFiasco Just called Kia west and spoke to one of the sales managers can’t remember the name off the top of my head but he said a few weeks ago they were told to expect EV6s at the dealership mid December to Early January! Woohooo! Now hopefully these will be competitively priced. I’m using the ID4 as reference. Hoping base would be just shy of 46k with the AWD base shy of 50k
I'm not placing any faith in Kia West nor should you. UK deliveries are just starting this month and US deliveries aren't scheduled until first quarter 2022. If the process is the same as every market globally so far they will be sold direct to consumer through pre-orders then routed to your dealer of choice (or nearest Kia EV dealer) for delivery. That is exactly what the local Kia EV dealer's Sales Manager has told me will happen in the Canadian market as well. And he was given that information by the Kia regional sales manager. Dealer inventory will come sometime after that. They told me Canadian online pre-orders will open this month (said mid-October). I would be happy to find out I was wrong or they were wrong. But, it seems unlikely Canada would be the only market that didn't follow this process.@OneFiasco Just called Kia west and spoke to one of the sales managers can’t remember the name off the top of my head but he said a few weeks ago they were told to expect EV6s at the dealership mid December to Early January!
