I just completed the May update. Good news: It did NOT reset all the nav destinations, like the April update did.

However, being a software guy, I suspect that this update MAY reset your data if you did not already apply the April update. It's possible that the data structures changed with the April/May software, so the old saved destination structures might not be compatible with the current structures.

An alternative interpretation is that the clearing of the data by the April update was a bug, and was the reason that update was pulled from distribution. If that's what happened, then the May update won't clear your data even if you haven't previously applied the April update.

We'll have to wait until someone who didn't install the April update installs the May update to know which is correct.
I went directly from Nov 21 to May 22. "Favorite" navi destinations are all gone.

I was able to update the software in my car last night - but not without a hiccup.

I had never run the April update, so this my the first time going through the process. It went through the first 5 steps uneventfully, with Map taking the longest (about 30-35 minutes), and then the subsequent 4 steps going a bit faster. Then the unit rebooted twice and then showed a new "System Update" screen...I didn't get a picture, but here's one that @klingon posted:

This part ran for a very long time – maybe over an hour? – I never saw if the progress bar made it to the end. At some point during this whole process the 12v charging light illuminated on the dash – which wasn't entirely surprising.

Eventually the screen went blank. I turned on the car and the screen said something like "Update unsuccessful – please see service center"...very troubling. But before I could get a picture it went away to black again. I got nervous.

I turned the car back on and everything booted up like normal. Whew. I checked the software version, and it was indeed the new update. I went to every app, screen, and setting, and everything works. No settings lost. Drove the car this morning, no issues. All the changes that people have talked about were there.

I'm hoping that last message I saw was just a glitch in the updater and not indicative of something that will rear its ugly head in the future. It makes me wonder if the reason we don't have OTA infotainment updates (yet) is due to the process still being a bit unstable (and the updater being massive). On this forum alone, there's been such a wide contrast of experiences running the update, it makes me think it might not be bullet-proof enough to run un-monitored on thousands of vehicles.

How do you go "full" widescreen? I just applied the update, and now I see music info on the side, which is better than just the Android Auto logo, but I can't figure out how to close the music info and see full widescreen Maps or Waze.

Edit: I just notice that your AA "bar" is still at the bottom, but mine is vertical, on the left side now.

I just updated my car. It took a little less than one hour in the car and probably another half hour to download the files to an USB stick. My USB storage is pretty quick, a slower unit might slow down the update. First, I plugged the USB in then I started the car, and it found the update and it prompted me for the update. There was a section towards the end what said Restoring settings or something like that.

Thanks kubr1ck. That did the trick. (Dontcha just love when devs hide stuff from the user? Such great ux design!)

But after seeing that you have to reduce your resolution to 720p, I think I prefer the split-screen 1080p mode. Yes, the super wide map looks cool, but the lower res is definitely noticeable (lines are jaggy). And I want music controls sometimes.

It would be nice if AA operated like the EV6's system, where you can just tap to toggle split screen mode -- in full resolution.

I'm really starting to understand the Kia quality comments. Been trying to update all last night and today. 4 different drives, 3 different fresh downloads and corrupt file message every time. Not a great first experience for me with Kia.

Why do you all want to do the updates on your own? Is it some kind of DIY spirit? My dealer does my updates in 30 minutes. It is easy to schedule updates using the Kia Access app. I would rather they do the updates, in case something get bricked.

Must be a regional thing but I can't even schedule to have my parking pawl recall done via the Kia Access app even though the app itself tells me to do it. I can't even seem to trust them to get a safety recall appointment, I don't have high hopes for a convenience one for the infotainment.

Because it's an available option and should be able to be done without needing a dealer. Apologists are the absolute worst.

Welp, something like 15th time is the charm. Tried 2 different microcenter 64gb drives (USB 3.0, 3.1). Samsung pro+ 64gb microsd in a USB converter. Samsung Evo+ 256gb in the same, PNY 64gb 3.1, and ONN. 64gb USB 3.0.

The ONN finally worked after having had it fail 2 time previously. I tried deleting and re-downloading the files from the NaU folder 4 or 5 times. Checked file size. Ever time it matched so I'm 99% sure it wasn't actually a corrupted file. Formatted drives manually, let the program format them, let the program add the files to the drive, manually add the files to the drive. Installed while in accessory, install while background, install while on, install while on the charger, scheduled install while off...installed while parked, while driving...

The last time it finally worked. What a mess. On the plus side the changes in the 05/04/22 update were welcome. I particularly appreciate the improvements to resolution and side by side view in Android Auto.

I'm sorry to hear you had trouble and I'm glad to hear it worked eventually. In my case it worked on the first try, I used the only USB that I have 128 GB Samsung and I used the Kia tool to download and copy the files to the drive.

I have yet to be able to schedule an appointment through the Access app or online at owners.Kia.com. The app just returns a blank white page after selecting my dealer and tapping on schedule. Online, the silly little car just goes in endless circles. I go to my dealers site and can choose the advisor, date, and time.

As for it being a DIY thing to do the system/nav update myself, nope. It’s just something I can do without a drive to the dealer, sitting in their showroom for an hour, then driving back home. I update my computers, why not this computer?

I had the same experience trying to schedule online. I had better results calling the closest dealer. Yesterday I was on my way to the dealership when my mechanic called me to reschedule. Apparently he had issues downloading the software update for parking recall from Kia website. We rescheduled for next Saturday. Software is not Kia's forte unfortunately.

Hi, just got my Kia a few days ago. Interested in attempting this update. What size drive will I need? What about formatting? Is the software specific to the EV6? Is it necessary to install previous updates or can I just get the latest one? Lastly, does anyone have a link to the download page? I know...allot of questions. Just don't want to mess this up.
