Has anyone had luck getting a new windshield for their EV6? Mine has been cracked since July and it’s spread almost all of the way across the window horizontally due to the fluctuation weather temps this winter. We have two auto glass repair companies that have tried to no avail getting one ordered. Kia says they are on back order. 5 months seems insane. Hoping for some helpful tips from this forum.

I had a chip filled last week, out of curiosity I did ask the shop to check if they can order a replacement. They looked up in their system and said replacements are not available to order at their suppliers. Not that I would want an aftermarket windshield but I was curious.

Going through this now. My Wind AWD developed cracks right over the rear view mirror the middle of October. My insurance company was very prompt and diligent and referred me to Safelight. Since the cameras etc. needed to be re-calibrated I had to take iit in to them. Turns out the part is backordered and I am still waiting and the cracks are getting worse.
My other unrelated gripe is with Safelight. They waited until I was driving to my appointment the first of November to notify me that they didn't have the part. This was after 5 emails reminding me of the appointment so that I didn't miss it and inconvenience them.
Then I get a voicemail last week that my appointment that week had to be canceled due to them still not having the windshield. I was never told that they had put me down for an appointment last week. Safelight probably does a good job but there management and service is atrocious. If you use them be sure to call the location the day before your appointment and make sure they actually have the part.

We're about to find out about this. It's early march in west central Idaho ahd we got about an inch of snow last night. I went out to use a broom and brush it off. When I got to the windshield the wiper blade was stuck to the windshield. So I went into the car and started the defrost rather than try to break it loose. I didn't notice the crack then but when we got in to drive it, we saw it was cracked right above this wiper. It looks like it has a small chip right at the beginning of the crack. I mention this because neither my wife or I can recall anything hitting while driving. I was wondering if the cold windshield that was covered with snow; then the subsequent defrost air could have caused a crack. I guess insurance companies no longer wave the deductable for windshied repairs like many were doing for awhile.

Rock flew off the back of a truck and made a pretty savage crack. SafeLite replaced it within a week with a guaranteed OEM windshield, appointment through my insurance company. Much easier than I feared…

For an update. I took the car into Safelite the first week in January but the new windshield was damaged in shipment. On the third trip the middle of January everything went smooth and didn't take long. Everything is working well. Safelite will do a good job but I recommend calling the day before and making sure they have the part and have opened the crate to be sure it is not damaged.

Happened to me last year, got the crack around may, got the replacement front windshield about 3 months later (Sweden).
Apparently they are in stock here in the USA. We called Safelite and after giving them the VIN number of the car, they made an appointment. Now, they reserved the right to re-schedule if they find that can't get it, but the appointment is in 4 days. They haven't called or texted yet. I guess it's on. We have a $500 deductable on our insurance, so that's what it is going to cost. I don't know how the crack happened or exactly when. We cleaned the 1 inch or so of moisture that was there (ice & snow) before driving then my wife and I both saw the crack down in the corner at the same time. I hope this doesn't keep happening because the 500 bucks isn't even one car payment, and we're living on a fixed income. Safelite shows that the cost if we paid out of pocket for the whole thing would be more like $800, so I guess we should feel like it was worth having the insurance.

Most of the insurance companies offer glass protection for a small add-on. After I had to replace the first windshield on another car, I called my agent and added glas protection. I'm glad I did, they covered the second windshield replacement.

Also make sure to get OEM replacement rider if offered, otherwise insurance will only approve/cover the cost for third-party only.

You know what surprised me, I had contacted my insurance on my windshield and just enquired on how much they would pay on an OEM windshield. When they told me it was XX amount of dollars, I paid out of my own pocket for 50% less. Because I called the insurance company to inquire, they listed it as a claim and my insurance rates went up the following year as a result. They keep this claim on your record for 5 years. Just saying, it is ridiculous for insurance companies to do this when they didn't even pay the claim.

We've only had the car since last October and already have a cracked windshield. Don't know how it happened although there what looks like a very small rock chip down in the passenger side corner. I'm not actually too sure I want another OEM windshield.

I can't speak about your car insurance but for the last decade I used two companies, one was Progressive the other one is Auto-Owners. None of them raised the premiums for windshield replacement if I used the glass protection add-on. In both cases it was not an accident or comprehensive insurance, only glass insurance add-on.

Yeah I guess that's if offered; Liberty Mutual doesn't list anything like that on the insurance documants on their website. I have comprehensive. We made an appointment this week with Safelite. I did it online and it looks like it already informed L.M. They gave me an exact price and said they had to recalibrate the camera in that area also. Hope it doesn't mess things up because it works very well so far.
