Road Trip Observations
2700 miles. 3.2 m/kWh
I am 6’2”. Very comfortable driving position. Legroom!
HDA2 has made driving very enjoyable. We have a Palisade with HDA and the EV6 lane
keep is more precise. In high winds, the car sticks to the middle of the road while others are being blown out of their lane. During torrential rain, the car can see the lane lines and the traffic, even if you can’t. When the road is empty and the only thing you have to worry about is an animal darting in front of you, you can really be the tourist, checking out the scenery while lightly gripping the steering wheel and barely having to move the wheel when the Keep Hands On warning chimes. I found out I am a go leftter. I caught myself numerous times with lane keep assist on tugging the steering wheel slightly to the left because I wanted to be closer to the lane line. I learned to let the car keep itself in the center of the lane. The cruise control recognizes changes in speed limit and automatically slows down or speeds up the car. The navigation based cruise control slows the car down around tight corners. On surface streets, I find the cruise control and lane keep assist very useful. Barely have to touch the power or brake pedals. We have a 2021 BMW X3 that has trouble with this. The lane change assist works.
I learned to be precise when using the air conditioning and radio controls. Too many times I accidentally turned on the seat heater or the back glass defroster or the front defogger or the air recirculation mode.
The chrome on the front of the center console was blinding me, so I covered it up with some fake carbon fiber.
Charging is a pleasure. Never had any range anxiety. I enjoyed pulling up to a charging station, plugging in and meeting the driver of a Polestar, or Tesla or Rivian, etc. and then waving bye-bye when I leave a few minutes later and they’re still charging. I could not get the first two CalTrans free chargers to flow electricity but the third one worked fine. I love free power!
Camping was wonderful. KOA campgrounds are great because you can plug in. The sleep app on my watch told me my best nights sleep were in the car. Did not need the body bag. A cooler, some luggage and a couple of other items in the second row footwell made the perfect height for the bed. Even though temperatures dropped into the high 30s, I never needed the heater during the night, never used Utility Mode.
