Just got an email from Kia , "Convenient Charging with the Enhanced Kia Charge Pass , his program allows charging access to thousands of public charging stations across the nation as ChargePoint®, EV Connect™, EVgo, Shell Recharge™, Tesla™, and others. Best of all, it's free to enroll in Kia Charge Pass and you just need your Kia Access app to use these stations, reducing the need for multiple apps."

I refuse to buy car specific adapters (mainly because I have several electric cars). A "better than OEM" adapter is worth taking a chance IMHO (and any KIA shenanigans would result in a class action suit). But it's your call..if you buy a KIA adapter and use it on your Porsche Macan then Porsche will come after you ???&&^%#..I call BS
1. Lectron and others make a better adapter, imho, ..so that is a viable option
2. I tested today and have not, to my knowledge, had any updates
3. you can use the tesla app..easy and finds SC very nicely
Are we talking about the one for $199 on the Rainforest website named Lectron NACS to CCS Electric Vehicle Adapter - 500 Amps / 1,000V?

But Kia won't honor the warranty if they catch you using the Lectron adapter and have charging port troubles, correct?
In the US, Kia would have to demonstrate that the use of the third-party adapter actually caused whatever fault they were trying to deny warranty support for. As long as you buy an adapter from a reliable manufacturer, it's highly unlikely this would happen.

They can't just deny any old problem just because you used an unapproved part. Federal law prohibits that kind of behavior.

$185 on the Lectron site and they give you a 5% coupon additional just for signing up for texts which you can unsubscribe from immediately after.

Thanks, but that doesn't differentiate between V2 (where we can't charge) and V3 where we can.
Under Filters > Additional Filters select "Hide Tesla Only Locations"

Is there's a benefit, like reduced cost, to using the Kia app (instead of Tesla app) to charge at Tesla chargers or did Kia just put this app update out to try to get people to keep Kia Connect plans (to do stuff like sending the Tesla charger location to the useless in-car navigation).
No, there's no benefit. Just use Tesla's app. It is much better and you'll have live Supercharger status and pricing. Also it is the only way to pay for hotel AC charging which uses Tesla Gen 3 Wall Connectors with the built-in Mini Magic Dock.

Many new Hilton and Marriott properties are installing Tesla Wall Connectors.

There's no way for them to prove that you used a 3rd party adapter. Just don't say anything should some very remote issue occur. All adapters are passive and have no electronic marking (unique ID).

Only the CCS to CHAdeMO adapter (which is not relevant for E-GMP) is an active adapter.

V2 doesn’t support the CCS protocol.
Also Version 2 Superchargers are obsolete even for Teslas. Tesla is working to phase V2s out systemwide and move to V4. V2s will force split power to only 75 kW when the site is more than 50% full.

If you know about the history of Superchargers, you'll know that V2s essentially used stacks of Model S onboard chargers. It was not purpose built hardware and wasn't as reliable as Version 3.

Thanks for the tip! Now I regret not getting the EA Pass+ plan last week.

Everyone, remember that you MUST use the Tesla app if you want to take advantage of the Tesla member subscription discount.

The subscription is $13/month but comes with a 25% charging discount like Electrify America. The breakeven point is 120 kWh or so -- that's about 2 DCFC sessions. EA's breakeven point is 50 kWh.

  • Does the ABRP app (my goto) allow filtering for Tesla supercharger sites that will work with a NACS to CCS adapter? I have the non-paid ABRP version, and it lets me select only NACS, there does not seem to be any further filtering available
After some more research and testing with my ABRP app, I can report that yes, ABRP can filter for Tesla superchargers that work with NACS to CCS adapters. To achieve this, under the vehicle settings, there is a toggle labeled "NACS adapter" that when set to on indicates to ABRP that you want to have superchargers filtered to include only compatible (V3, V4) ones. It may be that you have to logout and back in again after making this change to get it to persist. Under Chargers & Networks / Type of chargers you need to include NACS. Under Chargers & Networks / Avoid and Prefer you need to make sure you have not set Tesla to either avoid or exclude.

Good tips. I just edited the vehicle type, reselecting Kia->EV6->model and then having the choice to toggle the NACS adapter. If you have multiple EV6s(EVs), each one needs to be edited.

Thanks for doing the math on that; personally I would not subscribe to both EA and Tesla monthly plans--if I had to choose between the two I'd subscribe to the EA one since odds are the majority of my DCFC charging will be done at EA locations, plus the breakeven point is lower with the EA plan vs. the Tesla one. I would charge at a Tesla SC location only if I had no other choice, thus it makes little sense for me personally to subscribe to the Tesla monthly plan--especially if I've chosen to pay for the EA one.

I am confident that a second misstep on this is highly unlikely. Whatever the issue was before has been handled. So I'd bet against decommissioning at this point.

So question..... I just registered and added a card for my Kia connect pass. So should I use the Tesla app to charge at the Tesla charging stations or use the Kia connect app? Thanks!
Price is the same UNLESS you subscribe to a Tesla plan. If you don't subscribe (which saves you money if you use Tesla often)(remember EA is likely free for you!), I suspect Tesla app is easier normally ..but try them both after considering the comments above.
