This is all getting very confusing. Charge passes? Firmware updates? would someone be willing to just do a quick and simple write-up for what steps a person with a pre-2024 model needs to take to be able to use the Tesla chargers?

1. Where can one purchase an official Kia-endorsed adapter and are they available yet for those who don't fall into the category of 2024 owners who get them for free? If they are not yet available for purchase, when would a person know when they can purchase one?

2. Does the car itself require any software updates? Nav updates? If so, what?

3. What is the Kia Charge Pass, is it required to use the chargers, and if so how does one get this (I do not see it in the most recent version of the Kia Connect App like shown in the above screenshots)?

Thanks in advance!

Update--mea culpa on my part about the requirement of needing to be subscribed to one of the paid Kia Connect plans; what I wound up doing to get the Kia Charge Pass option to show up in both my Kia Access app as well as being there upon my logging into the Kia Owners web portal was I deleted my vehicle from my Kia Connect account, then essentially re-enrolled my vehicle to Kia Connect as if I was signing up for Kia Connect for the very first time, with the difference being that I did not need to create a new Kia Connect account--basically, when I re-enrolled my vehicle I had to turn on my vehicle and (re)activate Kia Connect in the head unit; once I did all that, the option/icon to sign up for Kia Charge Pass is now present; I was able to successfully sign up for it and now I'm able to search for DCFC charging locations via the Kia Access app. Oh, and as an added bonus--when I re-enrolled my vehicle to Kia Connect it looks like Kia gave me a(nother) 3-month free trial subscription to the Kia Connect Ultimate plan--LOL!

Side note--does Kia have something against EA? Asking cuz apparently you can't search for any EA DCFC chargers with the Kia Access app...but hey, at least it lets you search for Tesla chargers--LOL.

Simplest answers: call your Kia dealer for an adapter and download the Tesla app. All that's needed to charge today is an adapter and the Tesla app.

Thank you! I gave them a call and they do not have any in their parts department.

Would love to hear from anyone who’s actually successfully bought an adapter from a dealer; one would think that with all of the delays, the adapters would be widely available by now.

You may want to check online OEM parts dealers. I checked a few, one said it was discontinued, one said it was back-ordered, and one claimed to have them available.

1. Lectron and others make a better adapter, imho, ..so that is a viable option
2. I tested today and have not, to my knowledge, had any updates
3. you can use the tesla app..easy and finds SC very nicely

Has anyone had success getting the supercharger locations to show up on the cars navigation system? Even with the "Ultimate" plan I'm not seeing them.
Nope. Hopefully a 'newer' to the latest update will be out shortly. The V013 was really compiled last year! I'd guess that V014 is needed for those to appear.

So for now, use another mapping App. Hopefully not too cold in your area but since we'll only reach the high 90kW anyway, just a bit longer without preconditioning.

Yes but 100% reliable and a million more charging points to have access to. I'll take that anyday over the EA crap i've had to experience.

Is there's a benefit, like reduced cost, to using the Kia app (instead of Tesla app) to charge at Tesla chargers or did Kia just put this app update out to try to get people to keep Kia Connect plans (to do stuff like sending the Tesla charger location to the useless in-car navigation).

The cynical side of me thinks Kia is collecting data on how often its EV customers fast charge and where.

For users (like me) that are not paying for Kia Connect, are there phone apps that can filter for Tesla supercharger sites that will work with a NACS to CCS adapter? Specifically:

  • Does the Tesla app allow filtering for Tesla supercharger sites that will work with a NACS to CCS adapter?
  • Does the ABRP app (my goto) allow filtering for Tesla supercharger sites that will work with a NACS to CCS adapter? I have the non-paid ABRP version, and it lets me select only NACS, there does not seem to be any further filtering available.
  • Any others?

The Tesla app, once you enter the data on your specific vehicle (and adapter, if applicable) will only show those sites you can use. It's a pretty useful app.

But Kia won't honor the warranty if they catch you using the Lectron adapter and have charging port troubles, correct?
I refuse to buy car specific adapters (mainly because I have several electric cars). A "better than OEM" adapter is worth taking a chance IMHO (and any KIA shenanigans would result in a class action suit). But it's your call..if you buy a KIA adapter and use it on your Porsche Macan then Porsche will come after you ???&&^%#..I call BS

Is there a way to select only Superchargers on the Tesla app? When I checked today, some of the chargers shown on the map were L2 (based on the power rating).
