It is a manual switch system. There is no "cold butt" actuation. Unless you are inadvertently touching the seat button while reaching for the dash controls, there is an intermittent circuit short or a "touchy" button activated by vibration.

 

I've accidentally touched the buttons a few times when reaching for the climate/media buttons on the lower part of the dashboard

 

From the EV 6 manual:

Auto. controls that use climate control settings (if equipped)
The temperature of the driver’s seat warmer, air ventilated seat and heated steering wheel is automatically controlled depending on the inside and outside temperature of the vehicle when the vehicle is running.
Operation

• Select Settings → Vehicle → Seat → Heating/Ventilation → Auto. Controls That Use Climate Control Settings → Steering wheel warmer/Seat warmer/ventilation on the infotainment screen.
• The heated steering wheel and seat warmer/ventilation defaults to the OFF position whenever the vehicle is restarted. However, if the "Auto. controls that use climate control settings" is ON, the heated steering wheel and seat warmer/ventilation will turn on and off depending on the inside and outside temperature.

 

I had this in the Telluride, but never found it in the settings of my EV6

 

Jan ‘22 GT-Line AWD. Can’t find that Auto setting either.

 

I can't find that description anywhere in the 2022 EV6 (U.S.) owner's manual--maybe it's in the 2023 manual (and/or perhaps a non-U.S. feature)? Then again, the manual does include instructions for certain features that may or may not be equipped in our vehicles--take for example the EV6 Infotainment Reference Guide where it describes some features that are definitely not available in U.S.-spec EV6 vehicles (e.g., rear-seat conversation mode, rear-seat view, sound mood lamp). In any case I think the closest reference to what was described in post #4 may be this:

Not quite the same feature since it's not tied to the climate control system, but at least there is some sort of auto seat temp control in place.

 

Slightly off-topic but still somewhat-related to the EV6 climate system--apparently the 2022 EV6 owner's manual apparently can't get its facts straight when it comes to when to replace the cabin air filter; page 5-110 says this:

...yet page 8-8 says something different:

Given the above apparent paradox--do you think Kia might hold it against customers if they replaced their cabin air filter once every two years max instead of once a year max?

 

I mean, the filter is just there for your health. If no it’s clogged, then the HVAC won’t be as effective. (Thus more fogged up windows for example)

 

I'm have the same problem with the passenger seat. And no the button was not tuch

 

I am reviving this old thread. My wife and are are perplexed by the way the car (2023 EV6 GT-Line) randomly turns on steering wheel warming and seat warming. I see from this thread that no one has an answer. Can anyone comment on this? To anticipate some responses: (a) I have read the manual, (b) I have checked every setting for climate and seat control in the car's Setup screens, (c) I have read this entire thread and tried (without success) to find the settings that were mentioned, and (d) I have searched the forum and did not find any threads as closely on point as this one.

Like many others already in this thread, I will just note the same thing: the touch-sensitive buttons are easily accidentally activated.

If you have the manual switches and are seeing them turn on unexpectedly, I would still suspect accidental bumping, even though they should be much harder to do that with.

If you're sure you're not accidentally touching them, I would take steps to prove that, e.g. by constructing a simple guard, out of cardboard or plastic or something, to tape over the switches to guarantee you can't be touching them, and then see if it still happens (of course you'll have to forgo using the heaters during the test period...sorry, that's how diagnostics goes sometimes).

If you can still validate the claim that they are activating without any user input, time to see the dealer. At least you'll be prepared with detailed notes.
