This happened to me on a Hyundai several years ago. The sunroof grenaded in exactly the same fashion. There was no impact. Mine actually ended up crumbling in. Hyundai swore up and down that they pieced it together and found a stone chip or "something" and yet, still covered the entire replacement. Two years later I was contacted by the press, I wasn't the only one apparently, and there were talks of a class action. I see this, and my knee jerk fear is that this is the same thing all over again

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear of your infuriating broken glass issues with the sunroof!
I believe in the first month (Check your Country please) KIA in the UK auto replace anything that breaks in the first month. I had a KIA Stonic drivers side window shatter on the Motorway (Car was less than 1 month old). Informed the dealer and they automatically replaced it under warranty.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and hope that this is not a more widespread issue resulting in possible recalls.
It's not just the disappointment but also the time and money it will cost to wait to put things right and back to normal.
Happy and safe driving everyone.

Wow, you had a close call. Glad there were no injuries, and it's a bummer about the paint chips, too. I have never had or wanted a sun/moonroof in any car because back in the day they were known for leaks but based on the exploding glass occurrences that's an even better reason. Giving my EV6 Wind's steel roof a pat when I take it out today.
Any glass can spontaneously shatter when it's not mounted correctly. This happens to car windows, too. Back in the day, the rear side windows in Chrysler minivans (the windows that opened outwards) were known for shattering.

Agreed! I’m sure they’ll cover it. Unfortunate that it has happened on a few vehicles over the years. The one challenge we also have is the national back order on the replacement glass and parts for the EV6. No one has an ETA.

Well, Kia has no desire to replace the moonroof glass pane, their district parts manager (aka glass expert) from photos determined its from debris impact. They won’t explain how that determination was made. Kia Consumer Affairs would not claim fault but said they’ll pay our insurance deductible. Last i checked me filing through my insurance puts me at fault. Which i refuse to do. A few days later we picked up the car and intend to replace it ourselves. Consumer Affairs won’t talk anymore. Ended up filing an NHTSA claim and hopefully when this becomes a class action suit we’ll get reimbursed. Very unfortunate experience with Kia, probably never buy another car from them after this experience. The overall customer experience has been awful from the dealership to Kia Corporate.
So it's your fault but they'll pay the deductible huh...

This sounds awfully like what happened to me with my Hyundai, though they ended up paying for everything (but didn't admit fault)

It's tempered glass... It's crumbles... There's no way you can piece it back together. I would say keep fighting here

Did you get a quote to replace it yourself?

Resolved with Kia

I managed to identify some of the leadership team in Kia so I’m going to circumvent the people that keep wasting my time. Hopefully those above will see the value in customer experience and retention. Again not looking for hand outs, just remedy the situation instead of ignoring it.
Let's hope so, keep us posted.

UPDATE 3: I've got a call yesterday from somebody at KIA National Office to confirm that my claim will be covered under warranty :). I spoke with the dealer and they gave me an appointment for Tuesday, the glass replacement will be done by a third party contractor but on dealer's premises and under KIA's supervision. Although, It took a week to get an answer, it's good to know that KIA stays behind their product! Also, they will process the refund on the part I ordered. Hope this story helps people that run into similar issues.
Do you happen to have the contact of Kia National Office or whoever helped you on this claim. I'm having the same problem. Thank you

Well, I have had the car for 2 weeks already and love it. However, while driving today to work I heard a loud pop, when I get to the parking lot I checked the car and found the glass between the windshield and the sunroof was shattered. The road was quite empty and there were no cars around me, I'm sure nothing hit the car to the point to completely shatter the glass like that. Here are the pics.
Have anybody experience anything like that?! Do you think this could be a warranty item? I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow morning and wanted to get some other stories (if any).

It's 2023 and I'm surprised at how many of the same issue that this glass panel is coming up in my search. Mine was perfectly fine then one day I look up and boom it's a giant crack. I have no idea how it got there.

I noticed a 2 inch crack on the corner of my EV 6 gt sunroof.
Can not explain where it could have come from it came out of nowhere. Within days of cleaning the car it appeared. I have had my EV for about 2 1/2 months.

Wow, I thought I was the only one. I am in Canada and while driving down the highway, out of middle of nowhere just heard a loud explosion and the sunroof was gone. Shared the poop out of me. Have dashcam video showing no rocks or other reason for it to have exploded. Kia Canada told me it's not covered and told me to get lost. Was given a quote for $3033 for it to be replaced. Just finished waiting 2 weeks for the replacement glass to be delivered and installed. I am not happy. Based on the photos others have shared, looks like the same outward explosion resulting in the glass getting bent along the glue line. Starting to worry there's a design flaw in the vehicle. The shop that did the repair said the bent glass is a clear sign of pressure issue/crack.

Just to note... it was 7C (45F) outside, no snow or crazy conditions. Inside of the car had the HVAC on lowest auto setting with temperature set to 20C (68F).

Just got a 2022 EV6 last week (less than 500 miles on the odometer), on the 3rd day of ownership we heard what sounded like a gunshot only to realize within a few second the moonroof glass panel exploded above our heads as we heard lots of wind and glass pieces. Luckily we had the sun shade closed or glass would have rained down. Working with Kia Corporate consumer affairs to get it covered under warranty as the dealers don’t seem to have a process for resolution. Kia Corp wants to inspect it today / tomorrow for the cause. I told them good luck, 80% of the glass is missing, but happy to drop it off. Sounds like this is the less common panel to suddenly crack which is concerning. Similar to others, no cars around at the time of the event. The glass appears to have blown out and the chips of glass poured over the car scratching and chipping the paint. I’ll update the group once i have more information from Kia. Outside of the glass issues, absolutely love the car. Hoping Kia resolves quickly and the fix will last. Would hate for something as simple as glass to bring down the overall owner experience of the EV6.
What ended up happening to your EV6? Any luck with Kia warranty? I had exactly the same happen, same upward bend in the glass at the glue line. Nothing noteworthy on the drive other than the explosion when it happened. Normal weather, no snow or ice. Just there one minute and gone the next. Scared the poop out of me.

Do you have legal cover on your motor insurance over there or can you find cx a willing firm of lawyers…

I would go after Kia, just to make the point.
