Shattered Glass Roof Panel, anybody? | Page 5 | Kia EV Forum

Wow, I'm having flashbacks looking at these pics. We just leased a 2024 EV6 Wind, so no glass roof.
But I also own a Genesis G70 and, after owning it for four years with no issues, the exact same thing happened. I was just driving down the highway one day at about 70, temp was a mild 50 degree, and suddenly I heard what sounded like a gunshot over my head. I hadn't been driving behind anyone, or under anything. The sunroof had just exploded.
I'll keep it short and say that when I got it replaced at our local auto glass expert shop, the owner told me that Hyundai (and Genesis) and Kia were the worst for sunroof failures like this. Ugh. That's one reason I passed on the GT Line. I didn't feel like going through that nightmare again.

My wife almost yelled at the saleswoman when she tried to demonstrate the sunroof on her GV70 (no option to avoid it on the Electrified). She intends to never use it. We opted for no sunroof on my son's K5 because there were similar reports of spontaneous explosions like this. I'm stuck with it on my GT-Line EV6.

I've never had a moonroof shatter before, but I've had multiple cases of moonroofs leaking in previous cars despite never, ever opening them myself (I suspect it's from extreme weather wrecking the rubber seals). I have absolutely zero use for these things and utterly resent situations where they're forced into packages that contain the tech I actually want. Moonroofs = negative value IMO and that's a hill I'll die on!

I'm glad my GT-Line Package 1 does not have the moonroof. It's a bummer that I miss out on the electronic door handles, but that's a worthwhile price to pay.

My view on glass in roofs is that it should either be done Tesla's way (reinforced fixed glass that doesn't open), or preferably not done at all.

Hate them. Luckily in Oz, we get the full kitted GT Line with or without the glass roof. I opted out!! In our climate, why would we want to allow all that extra heat in? It was a primary reason for my rejecting a Tesla, along with having no screen in front of driver or HUD....

Well, I have had the car for 2 weeks already and love it. However, while driving today to work I heard a loud pop, when I get to the parking lot I checked the car and found the glass between the windshield and the sunroof was shattered. The road was quite empty and there were no cars around me, I'm sure nothing hit the car to the point to completely shatter the glass like that. Here are the pics.
Have anybody experience anything like that?! Do you think this could be a warranty item? I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow morning and wanted to get some other stories (if any).

Dear I have the same problem

Saw a Tesla recently at a very slow charging station in Oz. It was parked in a way to make access to an adjoining charging cable awkward and seemingly had been left there for many hours. It was there when I arrived and hooked up to adjacent charger. I had lunch and then returned after 1 hour. The Tesla was still there, still hooked up and the glass roof was completely caved in - looked like someone had jumped on it..... My car was undamaged, thank God. My take on it was the Tesla owner just left it there on charge for many hours - charge rate was a dismal 10kvh, and prevented anyone else using it. It may have been fully charged and left there. I didn't look. Have decided not to leave my car unattended at a charger in future.....
