You already have this information with the Kia App?

 

Yeah, I wanted to use DIMO without buying the hardware. Turns out it works anyway. The EV6 is in Beta, so it's not listed on the web site.

Not much detail in the app description. Is this a good replacement for the $$ KIA Connect app?

 

As far as I know, DIMO is only compatible with the AutoPI ODB dongle. They sell it on their web site, with 1 years SIM card data.
It's an open source project, so maybe the community have other options.
If your car supports the SmartCar API (unofficially the EV6 does), then you only need to connect the app.

For what it's worth, on twitter they have a discount code for $40 off.

 

I created an account to test Smartcar API. It appears to work with my EV6.

 

I see you are US based - were you using the demo.smartcar.com page to test, or dimo, or ...?

I'm getting a "Sorry we experienced an error" a the "Sign in with Kia Connect".

...did you need to do anything with your Kia Connect account, e.g. enable external API access?

I want to use "the API" - ultimately looks like smartcar.com's API - to have a direct connection between my energy provider (Octopus) and my Kia EV6 - HOWEVER, all of Octopus's app, Dimo, and the demo.smartcar.com web based app all fail with the same error. Anybody get any further?

 

I'm with Octopus and I have my car connected to them. DIMO also (although I upgraded to use their hardware option).
Nothing extra was needed to make it work.

 

Hi @StuartJ ; without me doing anything other that a retry, I was able to successfully to the smartcar API. Excellent! I thought.

Emailed Octopus, who replied with:
I'm sorry to inform that your current electric vehicle and charger are not compatible with Intelligent Octopus. Due to a battery issue, Intelligent Octopus has suspended services on KIA. We do not know when the issue will be resolved.

...if you are working still with the "Intelligent Octopus" tariff then I will challenge them.

I'm not surprised. I switched the Octopus charging off in the app. It would sometimes fail to charge when it said it would. I am still on the Intelligent tariff, so I just set the timer in my charger for off-peak. DIMO still works.

 

OK that is very useful - thank you. They won't let me go onto Intelligent Octopus - just Octopus Go.
