Installed mine this afternoon. I’ll clean up the wiring after testing it out for a few days. The board is MDF painted matte black and has a support in the center to prevent flexing. As for the speaker connector, I just applied solder to the exposed connector wires from the subwoofer harness, flattened them to resemble the lugs in the OEM subwoofer connector, pushed them into the car end and applied hot glue. This is completely reversible as the hot glue does nor stick too strongly. What are your gain and bass boost settings? I’ve kept mine in the middle for now.
Nicely done sir! I've kept mine at factory default but plan on doing some testing this weekend.

Now that's weird!

I installed the latest NAV update (23-12-2022) using a USB stick (for some reason it's not being pushed as an OTA update yet.)

As well as adding ambient sounds from the Squid Game director (!) it has definitely changed the audio software.

I remember that in the Meridian premium page there was an option for three surround presets, called (IIRC) authentic, and two others, together with a custom setting for which you could adjust two parameter, Immersion and imaging.

Now only the custom setting remains. The presets have vanished.

However the sound balance is way better than before and as a consequence I think the bass is also improved.

So it does appear that they have been doing something and that the NAV updates do affect the audio software.

I'm not sure I really need the sub anymore, but I'm going to fit it anyway to see, it should be epic now!

If anyone who hasn't installed this update can check their Sound settings page and confirm that I'm not going mad I would be grateful!

(Apart from the version number, you can tell if you have the latest version as it has the Squid Game ambient sound pack)
The United States hasn’t received this update yet, our latest audio Software is CV_E.USA.S5W_M.V009.001.221115
That said, the three saved settings are still around, just well hidden.
The CUSTOM Setting is now under SOUND/Sound Settings/Tone
The MERIDIAN Setting is now under SOUND/Sound Settings/Premium Sound/Meridian Horizon Custom
The AUTHENTIC Setting removes the tone controls and runs everything “flat”

I do believe the ambient sounds tracks sound substantially better, with a richer sense of localization and some improved mixes. For us in the U.S., we did get the new ambient sounds, but there’s been NO CHANGE WHATSOEVER in the muted (reduced volume) rear speakers and subwoofer. I’ve installed EVERY software update and replaced the amp, nothing has changed.

When you have selected an audio input, you will see a rectangular box on each source page which gives you the ability to select the processing you want.

Make sure you use a 15Amps cigarette connector, most of them are 10 Amps and won't last long. Some people remove that panel below and hardwire the power but I wanted it accessible in case I need to use the power to inflate tires or plug in a cooler. I feed the subwoofer using the amplified input and it can turn itself on and off when there is no signal on the wire. I have not experienced any issues with the 12V battery. View attachment 10977
Just one extremely anal observation:
You said you wanted the flexibility to plug other things into the rear 12 volt outlet. I’d still have connected to the source feeding that outlet, and kept all the wires hidden. Cleaner look, no risk of damage, can plug in anything and still hear the sub.
But like I said, I’m pretty anal.

It is Authentic (sound focused from the front), Surround (surround), and Custom. I think I would miss having those presets easily available... I like auth for talking/podcasts and surround for music. Are you saying you have squid game ambient sound alongside stuff like "Live Forest", "Rain", etc.?

Where do you download?

How are you seeing the update if you are also US?
I saw the update in posts 17 and 18 of this thread, both from members in Great Britain.
You can go to Official Kia Navigation Update Website and look under Notifications to see the latest Updates available.
Select the update you are interested in, then look for the red boxes which will take you to the list of vehicles the update Is available for. There isn’t anything new there for U.S. Owners.

Yes that’s how I did it.

Surround presets have gone, there’s only the custom setting left. I don’t miss them they sounded a bit like they were using phase cancellation to generate the illusion which to me just sounded odd.
The bass is definitely better.

I’ve got a powered sub to fit, I’m just waiting on the connector which is in transit from KoreaSpares

That connector from Koreaspares makes the install SO easy and clean!!! I put in a 10 inch KICKER powered subwoofer and it sounds SO amazing.

Do they have them as last time I looked they were out of stock.

What shipping times have they quoted if you do not mind me asking.

Did you install the Kicker Hideaway 46HS10? Trying to make sure it fits prior to having my shop order it.

Also, is it worth the extra monet over something like the Rockville SS8P?

Thanks
I got the KICKER 46HS10 Compact Powered 10-inch Subwoofer. I read the Rockville gets pretty hot. But I have no experience with Rockville. I drove Houston to Austin this past week in the Ev6. I meant to open up the back and feel the amp/sub woofer to see how hot it was. I forgot to check. I LOVE my Kicker and it really helped with the overall sound.

Getting the part from Korea made it a simple pulg and play. Plus, you can easily go back to stock as no stock wires are cut.

From @Manticore

The four wires you have coming from the KIA amplifier are the inputs to the subwoofer. The subwoofer is really biamped; it combines the outputs of a left subwoofer channel + (brown) with the right subwoofer channel + (pink). The white wire is the left channel subwoofer - (white) and the red wire is the left channel subwoofer -.
Summarized: (all are high level outputs)
Brown Left+
White. Left -
Pink. Right+
Red. Right -

You need to determine which wires on the kicker harness are the subwoofer inputs and connect the above outputs to those inputs.
You'll need to refer to the Kicker documentation to determine which wires are the high level inputs.

Is sparekorea.com still the only website where I can purchase this part?
