I’ve called three different dealers in the area to get an idea of what this might cost to have installed. I guess because the car is so new, nobody really seems to have a clear picture. There seems to be a agreement that the trailer hitch hardware cost around $545. There is also a wiring harness that cost around $245, however the GT line is supposed to have that already installed. Nobody seems to be 100% sure if that is true or not. One of the dealer said that there’s also a trim piece that you have to purchase, but he’s not sure how much that might cost. Lastly, they think the labor would be about $500.

Has anybody actually done this yet? Any advice on what’s involved?

Thanks!

Go to Buy OEM Kia Parts Online | Kia.Parts Store instead. They’re a dealership in Gilbert, Arizona and the hitch is $124 less than MSRP. Similarly, the bumper trim, wiring, and bumper protector.

Here are the part numbers that they verified for my VIN, also a GT Line.

Tow Hitch DOF61-AU000

Hitch Cover DOF61-AU790

Hitch Harness DOF67 AC000

Rear Bumper Applique DOF28-AU100

While their site doesn’t let you filter by EV9, their system still has the parts. User their contact form and send your vin asking, or place an order for what you think is right and they ask for your vin to verify compatibility before processing.

I’ve installed hitches myself on three of my past vehicles, but this time I decided to just have the dealer do it since my car was in to replace a dead cellular radio/modem module.

I did receive the receiver 😅and took it to the dealership. I reviewed the instructions, and didn’t think to scan them for sharing here - sorry. It read to be pretty straightforward. I didn’t read the wiring module though, just the hitch.

I got a Land with the towing package, so it has the hitch and the 7-pin connector. In order to be able to have the trailer's brakes work, do I also need to install a brake controller like this?
If you have the harness installed by dealer, 7 pin. My Canadian Land AWD premium has a trailer setting in the car. It allows you to select the size of the trailer.
However, I don't know how the car will interact with the brakes...

Has anyone had the OEM hitch installed without changing the plastic "bumper cover" part? Is that even possible?

I ask because my dealer has provided a quote to install a tow hitch that only includes the hitch part itself, no bumper cover.
I'm not sure if this is possible or if they are going to realise they need to order the bumper cover once they get half way through the install...

For reference my EV9 is a Land trim, and I only want the hitch installed (no harness).

I just installed mine and realized that that piece is in such an inconspicuous place that you can't tell that it's not the gloss trim.

Side note: for those of you that got the hitch, did it come with a hitch ball? I was thinking mine had as it has the mount for it but for the life of me I can't find the ball and I think I was just imagining it.

Hi, i'm new in the EV world, I will receive my EV9 in a week or two, it was pretty hard to get information for the towing kit with a 7 pins connector, so i'm very happy to find this forum. I have one question that I did not found the answer yet, when your towing a trailer and use the brake generative, does it only light up the brake light on the trailer or wil it apply the brake on it too ? Where i go, there is a big hill and I use compression to go down and only use brake a few time to avoid overheating, but if the regenerative brake apply brakes on the trailer, i'm afraid that it will very bad for the trailer brake.

Seems like you would want the same reaction from the trailer brake as if you were towing with an ICE vehicle. If you didn’t have regenerative braking then you would be braking with the brake pedal and that would send a signal to the trailer to brake.

Yes, the regenerative braking will activate the trailer brakes. And that’s a good thing because you don’t want the trailer to end up in front of your car.

You could overpower the regenerative braking by using the brake pedal on a long steep downhill and slow way down so that then the car and trailer might slowly speed up instead of the brakes being ridden the whole way down.

Be careful not to mess with turning down your trailer brake though because you then risk sway and less emergency stop effectiveness.
