Apple car play issue - Not connecting

My Apple CarPlay has sporadic connectivity issues. Sometimes it connects instantly to my iPhone, but other times it doesn't, and I have to reboot the infotainment system to make it work. I'm not sure if it's a hardware problem that I should inform my dealer about. Does it come with any electronic parts warranty?

Thanks in advance.

Mine isn't connecting with the new IPhone 15 pro max. I am calling KIA tomorrow. Apple says maybe KIA has a firmware update???

They’re passing us like balls. Apple will blame Kia and Kia will blame Apple. The thing is I have tried with my android phone as well and it failed without a doubt. You gotta visit the dealership and see what they can do. I tried two different dealerships, one of them told me they couldn’t find anything but wouldn’t tell me exactly which cable or phone they tested on which I found it to be BS. The other one simply told me this is a compatibility issue that they can’t fix. My goal for now is to keep going to the dealerships and have them replicate the issue at least three times (because 3 attempted repairs could qualify your car as a lemon car), I know for sure they’re not going to fix it because that’s how cheap they are. So I’m planning to use Lemon law in this case. I’ll hire a lawyer, sue Kia and have them purchase back the car.

Will L,
We have had similar issues with Apple Carplay in our 2023 EV6 and have tried to have our Kia dealer fix the problem on numerous occasions, all unsuccessful. Once we even left the car for over 10 days, difficult, since they don't give loaners. They claim they were unable to recreate the problem. It's hilarious, because the problem happened as soon as we got into the car and we gave them a video of it. We now have to resort to using a phone holder to use Google Maps and other apps.
We went through the escalation process with Kia and just received an email saying we don't qualify for lemon law because the car has not been "down for 15 business days to be considered a lemon in MA". They also say that their techs have not had ample time to work on the vehicle and that WE didn't allow them to work on the vehicle to diagnose concerns. Blame the customer and lie blatantly. Pretty pathetic. Our first and last Kia. Trying to go through BBB. Not sure what else would work other than class action lawsuit.

KiaSux,

Thank you for your reply. This matches what I've been told over the past year. I went to two dealerships: the first said it was a "compatibility issue with Apple" and couldn't fix it, which seemed unlikely to me. So, I tried another dealership and showed the technician the problem and my videos of previous Carplay failures while driving, but after a week, they said they couldn't replicate the issue. After escalating to Kia headquarters, they offer a $4,000 settlement that prevents me and anyone related to me from suing them in the future. This amount isn't enough to cover my costs if I choose to sell the car.

Here are three options we have:
  1. Escalate the issue with Kia headquarters. They might offer a settlement or a buyback (It didn't work in my state FL, but it's worth a shot), but I'd use this as a last resort.
  2. Contact the BBB. Document every visit to the dealership for repairs. Be aware that arbitration programs can be binding or non-binding, which makes a difference.
  3. Consider a class action lawsuit. It's a long shot but gives you leverage for a better settlement because big car companies rely on their reputations. If they lose the class action lawsuit, we are talking about millions of dollars in loss for them, and a downfall of reputation which could impact their future sales.
FYI, the Lemon Law requires at least three repair attempts or a certain number of days out of service, depending on the state. If they can't find the problem, it doesn't count as an attempt, no matter how many times you visit.

I have tried to fix the problem on my own and I may have found the problem. It should be a connection issue with the data cable under the head unit. I unplugged and plugged the cable it worked out for a week or so before it couldn't read at all, but that's a good start, at least I know what caused the problem.

Here's the YouTube video I found that fixed many other EV6 owners' Carplay problems for good, unfortunately not mine.

If you consider a class action lawsuit, count me in.

I hope everything works out for you!

Hi I had the same problem in my 23 EV6 GT and previously in 2 Macans. I always thought it was the cable connection and frequently bought new Apple cables (as they definitely have data transfer built in) but never worked consistently for long. So over 5 years, 3 cars and 2 iPhones and 5 Apple cables I concluded that the problem is is with Apples wired Carplay itself. I bought a cheap Lyssiefeel Wireless CarPlay Adapter from Amazon UK without much confidence but hey it’s been flawless during the past 3 months and have recently bought 2 more for my family’s cars a 2017 Range Rover Sport and a 2022 Dodge Ram TRX and these too have been perfect for the past couple of weeks. The only downside is that it won’t work with multiple phones/drivers, although they are cheap enough to have one each.
