KiaSux,
Thank you for your reply. This matches what I've been told over the past year. I went to two dealerships: the first said it was a "compatibility issue with Apple" and couldn't fix it, which seemed unlikely to me. So, I tried another dealership and showed the technician the problem and my videos of previous Carplay failures while driving, but after a week, they said they couldn't replicate the issue. After escalating to Kia headquarters, they offer a $4,000 settlement that prevents me and anyone related to me from suing them in the future. This amount isn't enough to cover my costs if I choose to sell the car.
Here are three options we have:
- Escalate the issue with Kia headquarters. They might offer a settlement or a buyback (It didn't work in my state FL, but it's worth a shot), but I'd use this as a last resort.
- Contact the BBB. Document every visit to the dealership for repairs. Be aware that arbitration programs can be binding or non-binding, which makes a difference.
- Consider a class action lawsuit. It's a long shot but gives you leverage for a better settlement because big car companies rely on their reputations. If they lose the class action lawsuit, we are talking about millions of dollars in loss for them, and a downfall of reputation which could impact their future sales.
FYI, the Lemon Law requires at least three repair attempts or a certain number of days out of service, depending on the state. If they can't find the problem, it doesn't count as an attempt, no matter how many times you visit.
I have tried to fix the problem on my own and I may have found the problem. It should be a connection issue with the data cable under the head unit. I unplugged and plugged the cable it worked out for a week or so before it couldn't read at all, but that's a good start, at least I know what caused the problem.
Here's the YouTube video I found that fixed many other EV6 owners' Carplay problems for good, unfortunately not mine.
If you consider a class action lawsuit, count me in.
I hope everything works out for you!
