Sounds to me like it's interfering with something. Have you tried disconnecting the remote turn on and just using the GTO facility?
As for using the factory amp to power the other speakers, I would disconnect the 'extra' speakers that aren't being powered by your audio control amp.
As its a 6 channel amp, I would go active on the front speakers, it'll sound way better.
What speakers are you using up front?
So right now I am active on the front speakers. the way the wire runs go from factory I am powering the front woofers and tweeters in the door on the first two channels, with the crossover in the door. the mids in teh dash are driven by channels 7-8. teh rears are driven by channels 3-4. disconnecting remote turn on right now just stops the radio and climate control from turning on and off unless the remote line is connected and the amp is set to GTO. furthermore, the only way to turn them on and off is by turning GTO on and off. SO bizarre.

my only thought is i somehow blew whatever causes the radio and climate control to turn on and off with the car and somehow using gto sends a signal back through the remote on to trigger those things to turn on and off? man, if it was just a blown fuse SOMEWHERE that would be so amazing.

holy crap i was right, i looked at the schematics and traced the circuit back through the car until i found a fuse that was blown. i replaced it and its all back to normal.

Glad you got it working, but it sounds to me that you don't have your speakers wired up optimally. You have your door components playing off one channel and the dash mids off another, unless that's been EQ'd out somehow, i doubt itll sound right. The time alignment won't be right either. You should run them without the passive crossovers and run an extra wire pair for the tweeters. That way you van EQ and time align each individual speaker and it will sound so much better. Also for full control of your sub, the sub amp should be getting it's signal from the dsp amp.
Reading back I see you've installed this yourself, have you done any sort of EQing on it?

Here are photos of the center speaker in the dashboard: easier to get the screws out and more wiring harness to work with, but the grill was a real pain to remove. Very difficult to do without damaging it.

It is larger than the corner midrange speakers, but like them this is a paper cone design and uses the grill as a baffle, sealing to the underside with a foam ring.

Not shown here, but the screw holes are 5mm, and they are roughly 106mm between centers and unlike the corner midrange speakers, they do not appear to be offset.

The very first photo looks as though there should be 2 speakers there for midrange that are close together. Is that true? Or is that 2nd space just empty in the middle of the dash? It looks as though that main center speaker is your typical 3.5 incher. The other smaller space next to it........I don't know if there is a speaker there, or the size of it if it is. I guess the 2 flanking midrangers in the dash next to the corners are just over 2 inches??

Also, if you know the size of the speaker size behind the rear corner passengers that are supposed to be surrounds, that would be great! I am working on a plan for highend audio replacements for the Meridian speakers.

Thanks for your help!! :)

Hello, I just wanted to add to the helpful information @IC_Guru shared above. Here are photos of the midrange speakers in the corners of the dashboard. They are standard paper cone mids which use the top grill as a baffle (they seal with a foam ring to the underside of the grill), so any replacements would also need a foam ring or some other way to isolate the air in front of the speaker from the air behind it. Getting the front screw out required making a special tool. Even my most stubby Phillips screwdriver wouldn't fit. It's also worth noting that the speaker wiring harness to these is very short. It will be difficult to cut off the terminal and crimp new wire on, so I hope someone finds an adapter.

So the size of that midrange speaker in the corner dash on both sides are about 3 inches in size? I also need to know the speaker size of the center dash one, and the surround speakers behind the rear seats. If you have that size, let me know whenever it is convenient. I am planning on an audio upgrade. Thanks so much, and also thanks for posting.

I used these wide bands in the dash corner location

The tabs on the supplied brackets lined up with a little fettling required.
I replaced the front door 6 1/2" speakers also with audison. Running them active crossed at 500 hz through a helix dsp amp and it sounds fantastic once dialed in.

Hi Pookie! I posted about the rear speakers here if you were interested: https://www.kiaevforums.com/threads/rear-speaker-replacements.13147/

Also for the center, I'm putting a 3" midrange and a 1-3/8" tweeter in the space, making it a 15 speaker system. You can see my profile for what I bought for my system (to be installed soon!)

I will end up having an extra 2 speaker center channel when all is done.

That sounds like a good idea for the center channel by including a tweeter. Maybe I might do that too! Thanks for the link and for posting the sizes. It’s alot of help as I plan out everything! It’s also a little bit of dough to get it done. 😩😅😅

The center channel hasn't been done yet, I don't think. I'll have another set if interested, but they're terribly expensive.

Since I try to be very transparent on what I do, I can say that my system, not counting installation, and with no sound deadening is currently sitting at over $10,000. Speakers were $4268 + Tax, and the amps and accessories are so far $3710 + Tax. The box (custom of course) was $1500. Oof.

I am not surprised at all at the cost so far! It’s a lot of money. Sound deadening will cost me about $5000 assuming you use a very good product unless you try and do that yourself, and the Helix Ci7s are over $5500 and I haven’t addressed the surrounds nor the dash speakers yet! The Helix V series 18 channel DSP/amp is about $2500!! But since EV6 has 14 speakers, that was what I settled on. So so doggone expensive! 🥹😲

So you're going full active. Wow, impressive! You'll have my dream amp! 🥲 I was originally going to go with the Helix V as well! My installer didn't want to deal with the wiring through the factory wiring harness so I said whatever then ultimately decided on JL.

If you're going to have extra 4 channels I'm sure you're going to bridge some to get some more power ro the doors, or? Some speakers like that would probably love the juice! Curious what you'll be doing for a subwoofer as well!

I'm not sure what I'm going to do about sound deadening, my installer knows what I want, but that could be asking a lot... I might just go somewhere else or try to do ResoNix myself.

If you were interested, I have the other halfs of my pairs that I will have taking up space. Hertz Mille Legend (their flagship line) ML 700.3 and ML 280.3. I'm also getting mounts made already so I could see about getting another set done so it would be ready for you to wire and install. Just throwing it out there! I've sold to someone else on the form as well that could vouch for me 🙂. We should probably keep this to private if you were interested.

Oh so that is what going active means! Good to know! There was a YouTube vid that got me all excited and inspired to take on a high-end audio upgrade. Of course my first thought was the high cost, and boy was I justified in thinking that! The video was my first exposure to the desirable Helix V18 series DSP, as well as to Helix Ci7 series, their top of the line speaker. Anyway, check out this video:

I can see why your installer didn’t want to mess with that DSP because yes, there is a lot of wiring involved as each channel is matched to each speaker component. With 14 speakers, it is rather involved. But in the end, it would be worth it in my opinion. And this is particularly true when you get a skillful autotuner to autotune your DSP through their laptop.

You had curiosity about the subwoofer I’m using. It’s called the Helix IQ subwoofer which is a 10 incher. In fact, it just came out like weeks ago the guy told me. They are $700 per sub. I am only getting one sub due to space constraints. One is enough. They are just as good as the Focal Utopia subwoofer from what I heard, but less cost.

Due to the cost of everything, I have to do everything in phases. Sound deadening was my first phase and like you, I chose ResoNix. The next phase was focusing on purchasing the power equipment like the amps, DSPs, etc, and then phase 3 would be focus on speaker choices. I guess you can say phase 4 is the labor cost to get this all installed. Back seats have to come out and all this which I never imagined! The DSP can go right under the back passenger side seat. The Meridian can be left in still in operation.

OMG I am a super huge fan of the Hertz Mille Legends!! I’m real impressed you have this! But I am moneyed out so to speak. I was almost hyper ventilating when I pulled the trigger to buy some of this stuff! 🤣🤣 Your methodical posting of speaker sizing really helped me to plan and kept me motivated to move forward!

I wish you all the luck in the world as you continue with the project! We will both be ecstatic at the upgrade and sound. It is a little shocking that a car of this price range don’t have much better sound systems than this even though it is better than average. Better than average is just not good enough for me. I wouldn’t call myself a pure audiophile by a long shot, but I do very much like good quality sound. 😁
