So you're going full active. Wow, impressive! You'll have my dream amp! 🥲 I was originally going to go with the Helix V as well! My installer didn't want to deal with the wiring through the factory wiring harness so I said whatever then ultimately decided on JL.
If you're going to have extra 4 channels I'm sure you're going to bridge some to get some more power ro the doors, or? Some speakers like that would probably love the juice! Curious what you'll be doing for a subwoofer as well!
I'm not sure what I'm going to do about sound deadening, my installer knows what I want, but that could be asking a lot... I might just go somewhere else or try to do ResoNix myself.
If you were interested, I have the other halfs of my pairs that I will have taking up space. Hertz Mille Legend (their flagship line) ML 700.3 and ML 280.3. I'm also getting mounts made already so I could see about getting another set done so it would be ready for you to wire and install. Just throwing it out there! I've sold to someone else on the form as well that could vouch for me 🙂. We should probably keep this to private if you were interested.
Oh so that is what going active means! Good to know! There was a YouTube vid that got me all excited and inspired to take on a high-end audio upgrade. Of course my first thought was the high cost, and boy was I justified in thinking that! The video was my first exposure to the desirable Helix V18 series DSP, as well as to Helix Ci7 series, their top of the line speaker. Anyway, check out this video:
I can see why your installer didn’t want to mess with that DSP because yes, there is a lot of wiring involved as each channel is matched to each speaker component. With 14 speakers, it is rather involved. But in the end, it would be worth it in my opinion. And this is particularly true when you get a skillful autotuner to autotune your DSP through their laptop.
You had curiosity about the subwoofer I’m using. It’s called the Helix IQ subwoofer which is a 10 incher. In fact, it just came out like weeks ago the guy told me. They are $700 per sub. I am only getting one sub due to space constraints. One is enough. They are just as good as the Focal Utopia subwoofer from what I heard, but less cost.
Due to the cost of everything, I have to do everything in phases. Sound deadening was my first phase and like you, I chose ResoNix. The next phase was focusing on purchasing the power equipment like the amps, DSPs, etc, and then phase 3 would be focus on speaker choices. I guess you can say phase 4 is the labor cost to get this all installed. Back seats have to come out and all this which I never imagined! The DSP can go right under the back passenger side seat. The Meridian can be left in still in operation.
OMG I am a super huge fan of the Hertz Mille Legends!! I’m real impressed you have this! But I am moneyed out so to speak. I was almost hyper ventilating when I pulled the trigger to buy some of this stuff! 🤣🤣 Your methodical posting of speaker sizing really helped me to plan and kept me motivated to move forward!
I wish you all the luck in the world as you continue with the project! We will both be ecstatic at the upgrade and sound. It is a little shocking that a car of this price range don’t have much better sound systems than this even though it is better than average. Better than average is just not good enough for me. I wouldn’t call myself a pure audiophile by a long shot, but I do very much like good quality sound. 😁
