EV9 Wind, had it without any issues since Dec 2023.

This morning commute, no issues. Returning to the car, got this screen when trying to start it
Image

that was the first time we started it. Turning off and then back on, didn’t even get that display, only the door open and parking brake indicators:

Note the infotainment screen and climate screens are just fine.

Car can actually drive just fine (just no dash to see speed, status, etc. Turn signals work, but no audio. Similarly no “start up noise” when turning the car on.

Plugging into L1 charger, no problems, started charging (and “charging started” sound played as normal)

reset the infotainment system/screen, no change.

called the dealer & have a diagnostic appointment next Tuesday.

Does anyone know of a system-level reboot?
any other ideas?

Please disconnect the 12V battery terminals for a few minutes and then reconnect them.
If the issue persists, it is likely due to a module CAN bus traffic issue that will require professional attention.
Soft reboot is only for 2nd screen.
Main screen can experience this bug after OTA updates in the background or not sticking PDI settings before getting to sales floor.

Same thing with our EV9 GT-Line (also Dec 2023) this morning, though I didn't note whether the climate screen was working. Was too distressed not seeing speed and SOC to notice climate. Main screen only showed D - P - R. Heads-up display also did not work; and while driving couldn't tell if the blinker was working or not - though checked that after parking and it was.

When I restarted a few hours later, everything was normal.

This was after an update last night.

2024 EV9 GT Line with about 3200 miles. The main display has gone blank. The car still runs and drives okay, but, no speedometer or head-up display, no way to tell state of charge except on the Kia app. The owners manual indicates that there are two fuses that have something to do with the cluster and head-up display - Memory 2 and Cluster. I can find neither of these fuses in the fuse block diagram. Does anyone know which fuses these are?

Also, is there some setting that I may have bumped by accident that causes the display to go blank? The climate control screen and the nav screen work fine.

The vehicle is still under warranty but the dealer service dept is closed until Tuesday and I am trying to leave on a 7500 mile trip on Friday.

Thank you.

Hello to all,
I recently have had the same issue. Cluster screen and HUD (GT Line) going blank. The issue resolves itself sometimes by letting the vehicle sit for a long while. The pin-in-hole reset under the infotainment screen does not fix the issue.
The latest issue is powering on the vehicle

and having the cluster show a Korean display

Again, the issues are not consistent. Sometimes all is perfect in the vehicle.
I have escalated the issue to Kia corporate and have an appointment with the Regional Field Service Rep on August 17th

UPDATE: I disconnected the 12V battery (negative terminal) for 10 minutes. I have not been able to replicate the 'blank' screen syndrome. Seems to have fixed the issue.

Just experienced the identical issue with heads up display, speed, turn signals main screen went TOTALLY black on me yesterday while running errands! It was/is frightening. Fortunately, I had a KIA dealership on my way home, so pulled in….Parts Department was closed (Saturday) and Service had closed however a nice young man was there working in the back on his own car (off hours) and said he’d try to help :)

He came out to the car, I shared with him it was fine that I had stopped at a stored for 10 minutes, came out, started the car and NOTHING….Black screen! He shared with me that he is not EV Certified however, offered to call the person at the dealership that was off work and it was very cool this person answered his call and walked him through what to do….thank goodness, it worked! However, the certified tech said I should call service and have them order a new board screen and it would be covered under warranty. So….Tuesday, after Labor Day, I will do just that.

In the meantime, it’s pretty alarming to spend almost $70K on a brand new car and have this happen!!! I hope to bring back good news when it’s replaced.

It is irrelevant whether you spend $70,000 or exceed $100,000.

Any mass-produced mainstream vehicle will encounter issues with the initial and subsequent model updates.
If you seek the utmost reliability for your investment, consider limited-production vehicles typically priced between $100,000 and $350,000.
Furthermore, in the realm of electric vehicle production, no manufacturer is immune to imperfections, including German and other renowned manufacturers. They all experience challenges during the first one to three years of production.

Thanks for the info. I tried to search the forum for this issue before I posted, but found nothing because I was using the wrong search term.

My problem has resolved itself for now, it started working again after sitting in my carport for a couple of hours. I will check out the procedure for disconnecting the battery and carry the proper tools with me on my trip in case the problem re-occurs.

Thanks again.

Just ran into this same issue with my 2100 mile EV9 Wind. Leaving it in front of my garage for now, to see if the issue goes away on its own. If not, will plan on disconnecting the battery, etc. my Kia dealer tells me that the soonest they can look at it is in 2 weeks; other dealers in the area 2 months. I love the car, but what a ridiculous customer service.

Update: Letting it sit for a long while resolved the issue for me. Seeing other new to me intermittent errors like “electrical system failure” that may or not be related.

In the meanwhile, my saga with Kia customer service continues. My dealer just went ahead and cancelled my service appointment “because they don’t have enough technicians to look at it”. Got a voicemail from them saying that “we should try rescheduling for the end of the month”. Although my car is drivable—for now—I keep wondering what happens if I run into an issue that doesn't go away on its own.

I just got the blank main dash screen. So frustrating.

If you've had this problem, I suggest reporting it as a safety problem to the NHTSA. They can make Kia fix it since it is a real safety issue when you can't see your speed. Posting about it on the internet too is good because it helps other owners, but Kia probably needs more motivation than that to quickly fix it.

I just had this happen to me on my GT-Line as well. Frustrating, and unnerving. No speed display, no noises for seat belt or turn signal... luckily I was not too far from home, so I headed back. Currently have the car off and will see if waiting a couple hours brings it back to life.
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for posting that link to NHTSA, I did submit a complaint. More than a handful have experienced this, and who knows if it will keep happening intermittently, only next time in a situation that could result in someone getting hurt 😕.

I recommend reporting the vehicle issue and requesting documentation of the incident. Furthermore, I suggest retaining the service ticket for future reference.
Additionally, it would be advisable to schedule an appointment with the service department when a senior technician or engineer is available to conduct a more thorough diagnosis, should the local technicians be unable to identify the root cause of the issue.
Who knows maybe I finish taking a look at your vehicle.
