What do you think about the sound system?

1. You can use the kia head unit to adjust bass but you will also be adjusting the bass in the front door woofers as well. The remote gain isn't necessary and I don't have mine hooked up.

2. Yes you can tap into the 12v behind the plug for 15amps of power, thats what i use for my Kicker. You can also tap into the trailer hitch harness for 30amps if you want more power. Both methods are documented here on the forum
Beautiful and thanks! I believe I will now move forward with acquiring an EV6!

Remember, ignoring the sub entirely, the system takes rather a while to break in. Like, tens of hours. If I could redo one thing, I’d wait for 100 hours of driving before making any changes to the audio system, so you have a known stable starting point.

I bet I’d still have replaced the stock subwoofer, but I’m not certain. At this point I plan to add an aftermarket DSP at some point, and I bet that could be made to work with the stock sub

Hello everyone, can someone tell me what the colors of the speaker cables in the rear left door are? I would like to tap the cable there and support the standard sound with a Helix U 10. There is no Meridian sound system installed. EV6 GT Line

Would you mind quoting where these are shown or located? I've been reading page after page and haven't seen or read a definitive Location to tap into. I guess I could just stop being lazy and dig around back there

Lots and lots of theads and posts, too many to go through, but these two are probably the most useful ones:

I'll be replacing the OE Meridian sub with a powered sub (Rockville SS10P 10" or KICKER 46HS10) by tapping into either the trailer wiring or the 12v outlet in the cargo area with one of these connectors so that I don't have to cut any OE wires:

Awesomeness. Thank you

Brickie made a post showing this, page 9 of the subwoofer thread.

The 12v wire is accessed from the panel below the 12v outlet. Reach your hand in and up to pull the wire out. I popped out the 12v and removed the blade connectors to give myself more wire length to work with. I used wagos as well and after tapping, I reinstalled the outlet and you can't tell anything has been touched.

Hi all - I just got my EV6 GT line in Snow White Pearl last week and it is AWESOME !!! Love it in almost every way and have had no software issues so far.

However the sound system really is a disappointment. I came from a BMW 3 series with upgraded B&O speakers that were great.

I've read the post/comments and reviews already and I agree with most that the bass is weak and the mid-levels and vocals sound tinny. The sound is better when using the Kia's Media system and worse with CarPlay. There is a very limited equalizer adjustment so can't do much there.

I really do love hearing great sound from the speakers when listening to music when driving.

I am not a speaker/audio expert at all and was wondering if anyone on the forum might be and provide some advice on how to improve the sound system. Would simply buying a subwoofer help? Would it be better to replace all of the speakers? Which brands would you recommend?

Thank you for any guidance anyone can provide !!
I'm having a installation done tomorrow on my ev6 gt 2023 with a 500 whatt Kenwood sub and a amp I'll let you know w it sounds .. he told me they go into the 12v battery not the other one so hopefully not alot of kw drainage....

I recently installed a custom 8 inch fiberglass woofer taking up the bottom area where the oem stock sub did. It is a Dayton audio HO series 8 inch woofer with a 375w rms amp (skar audio 1200 something) and makes more than enough bass. That plus some eq touchups I did on the midrange really make the sound quite good (coming from an audio systems engineer background). Anyone interested in details message me. View attachment 4727
Where dit you connect the Audio cable for audio out to receive signal to amplifier?

Anyone know the specs for the OEM sub? I would like to just replace the sub with a higher grade 5" sub.
There are a number of posts about the Meridian subwoofer here and in other threads (search at the top of every page).

The consensus is that the speaker itself isn't in need of replacement, it's in need of proper amplification. A few have added an auxiliary amp to the the OE sub with positive results. Most have simply replaced it with a powered sub. Like a number of folks I installed a 10" powered sub and it's made a world of difference - details here.

Most everything you need to know about subwoofer options can be found in this thread:

One of the members kept the Meridian sub box, replaced the sub with this one and added an amp to power it.

That said, here are some of the posts I saved while I was researching. A couple discuss the Meridian sub itself with photos.

Hope that helps!

A few of us already have the Kicker installed. In my case, sound deadening and the kicker 10 made a huge improvement. You won't win any SPL comps, but it does pair well with the Meridian.

What is the point of adding sound deadening? I thought the reason for the upgrade was to get more sound output

Good question.

Bottom line, sound deadeners support vehicle cabin isolation from the outside world as well as enhancing audio sound. Higher-end, luxury vehicles have more, lower-end economy vehicles not as much. The material serves three main purposes, in order of importance:

1. Reduce exterior road noise coming into the cabin.

2. Enhance loud speaker output by providing a "baffle" which can improve the overall acoustic environment.

3. Reduce vehicle interior and exterior noises caused by loud speakers including harmonic vibrations/resonance, parts rattling, etc.

Sound deadener can actually make the stereo sound "louder" by helping to overcome the ambient exterior noise while changing the resonant frequency of the sheet metal reverberations the system's competing with.

There are lots of articles and videos about the various types and use of sound deadeners.

With respect to subwoofers, here are a couple of good articles about how they work and why they are placed in the rear of vehicles with no "direct line of sight" (sound) to its occupants.

In-depth discussions about upgrading the EV6’s subwoofer here:

Other folks may jump in with additional info.

I can't recall if this is a photo of @mjduke420 install, but as you can see, the sound deadening material is placed around and below the subwoofer. The OE Meridian sub and most if not all of the replacement subwoofers folks are installing "fire" upwards. IOW, the speaker is aimed up into the cabin area. So the deadener supports the sound movement into the cabin while reducing the impact the sound has on the surrounding sheet metal, plastic and other parts near it.

That is indeed my install. I found the sound deadening noticeably cut road noise from the rear at highway speeds. Sound deadener helps dampen higher frequency noise but bass wavelengths are long enough to pass right through.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who contributed, this forum is an amazing resource.
I have the Light, so the sound is better than with the Meridian, but I'm planning to replace it with a full Sony ES system.
I'm taking my time to collect all the data, so it'll happen in the next couple of months. When I do, I'll make a detailed video :)
